Melatonin and autoimmune diseases

Post by Zizzle »

I haven't had a desire to take a melatonin supplement...it's mostly used by people with insomnia, but I found this article interesting. Apparently it is not advisable for people with autoimmune diseases.

I wonder if there is any connection between this and the action of LDN, Low Dose Naltrexone?

Thanks for posting this Zizzle I liked the description of the NEI and the roles played by vitamin D and melatonin. I had been taking melatonin on and off to help with sleep and was unaware of this

Recently though, I have added a new med to control tachycardia, Atenolol and this has allowed me to stop the use of melatonin. Atenolol does knock me out pretty good at night, but does help the heart regulate its pulse. This is an issue that's been brewing for about 4 years now.

Darn. I take it sometimes to help with sleep, but not all the time. I can't say I have noticed a difference in symptoms when I do though. I will have to pay closer attention. Thanks for the info

melatonin and auto immune...

Post by wmonique2 »

Z.,

thanks for that. If I stop taking melatonin, I can add insomnia to the rest of my agonies. I've been taking the darn thing for 20 years. And here I thought it was doing me some good...

Without sleep, I'll surely become HOMICIDAL and SUICIDAL

I'm with Monique. I started taking 1 mg of melatonin at night a few years ago. It helps me stay asleep, and I sure don't need the insomnia to come back.
