unfortunately to see the whole article you have to be a registered practitioner -
(the full article may appear in some of the USA based sites that tex can access)

i think it reiterates that our current lifestyle (preservatives, GMO, stress, etc etc) is key part of why IBD's exist

IBD answers could lie with Aborigines

Potentially crucial clues about the mysterious aetiology of inflammatory bowel diseases may reside in the guts of indigenous Australians living in the outback, according to keynote research presented at the 8th Congress of the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation in Vienna.
Indigenous Australians living traditional lifestyles have “a distinct gut microbial profile” compared to patients with Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, Dr Guru Iyngkaran, a gastroenterologist at Royal Melbourne Hospital, told the packed main hall.
This unique gut flora could explain why hardly any indigenous people in outback communities have IBD, Dr Iyngkaran said. Health surveys have revealed a high level of childhood infections but few cases of IBD, he said, adding that similarly low rates have been reported in indigenous Canadians

IMO, there are 3 reasons why aborigines have a unique gut microbial profile:

1. In the past at least, they have traditionally eaten a unique diet with no refined carbs (and no gluten)

2. In the past at least, they didn't run to the doctor and return home with a bottle of pills, every time they got a tummy ache

3. In the past at least, they didn't take their kids to the doctor to get an antibiotic, every time they got the sniffles, so their kids grew up with a healthy gut bacteria profile, and a properly-developed immune system

The "no gluten" part is the most important factor, IMO. These days, though, I'm sure that most of them have adopted "civilized" lifestyles, so you can bet that their gut bacteria profiles are doomed, in the long run.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
