Hi everybody,

I am currently taking cortisone and that made me gain a little bit of weight (only 3 kg). With the cortisone, I have to eat...

Since I have a hiatus hernia, I am obliged to watch my diet.

So I want to replace the GF free cookies, that I only eat to take the cortisone at 2pm, with fruit. My problem is that I don't really know what fruit to eat. In the past, I tried eating kiwis but I had D all the time. At the moment, I'm only eating apples. But you can probably imagine that I'm getting pretty of eating apples everyday... :roll:

So here's my question to you: what kind of fruit can you all digest well and doesn't cause D? :lol:

Hi Julie,

I believe that most of us (though not everyone) can handle bananas. If you can tolerate apples, then you should be able to eat pears, and maybe peaches. Some of us can handle mangoes. Cooked fruit (including canned fruit) is easier to digest than raw fruit. It's also best to peel them, to reduce the amount of fiber, because most of the fiber is in the peel. Many of us cannot handle any citrus fruit until after we've had a significant amount of healing.

This works for me: Cut up bananas into small pieces and freeze in 1/2 cup portions. I use 1/2 c frozen banana, 2-3 slices of frozen peach, 2-3 small frozen mango pieces, one frozen strawberry and a handful of frozen raspberries. Add to a blender or Magic Bullet container, fill up to the top of the fruit layer with apple juice and blend. This makes a delicious fruit smoothie. I have always had issues with the fiber in fruit but this smoothie has been trouble free. You can use fruits that you know you tolerate and any fruit juice or milk substitute that you can tolerate. I confess I frequently add raspberry or mango sorbet to the blend. :lol: Many of us have trouble gaining weight and the spoonsful of sorbet add a few calories.

The paleo or morning glory muffin is also a good source of protein and calories, made with almond flour, apple and either carrot, pumpkin, zucchini or other fruit/veggie. The recipe is in Dee's kitchen

I love this discussion about fruit because I have been afraid of fruit, especially acidic fruits, and have been eating only eat bananas, and applesauce. Fruit with pits or seeds like strawberries also terrify me. Lately though, I peeled an apple and ate it and was okay. I like Tex's suggestion to try a pear or mango and thank you, Shelia, for sharing your magic bullet recipe, I have a bullet blender and wondered if it would pulverize raspberry or strawberry seeds to a safe level. last summer, I tried watermelon and it made me sick. I love watermelon and wonder if others can eat it.

Here is a site that tells which fruit and acidic or low acidic etc. It says Avocados are a fruit and that pumpkin and winter squash are starchy fruits. Interesting!

Thank you for the interesting site!

My problem was, that I gained a little bit of weight because of the cortisone. I have to take it in the afternoon and I have to eat something with it. I ate some GF cookies, but that just made me gain more weight. In the meantime, I have already lost 1 KG since I'm eating fruit instead of the cookies and I drink a lot of water.

Since I feel better, I decided to join a gymclub. I hope that I can finally do some more exercise.

I have tried apples (with peel and without peel, to find out what I would feel). With peel: I felt as if I ate ten apples instead of one. Without peel: I felt great!
Bananas aren't a problem so far. I am going to try to eat grapes.
