Update on Wayne.....he's headed for surgery

Post by Polly »

Hi All!

Just had a phone call from Wayne. He was seen right away when he got to the E.R. today and has had blood tests, MRI, CAT scan, etc., and has been seen by many doctors. They think he has a blockage in the area of the sigmoid colon and are recommending surgery. They left the decision up to him whether to have surgery tonight or tomorrow. Wayne and I tossed it around a bit, and I think he's going to opt for surgery tonight.

He doesn't know when he will be back on the board but asked me to send his love to everyone. I asked him to let me know ASAP how he is doing (as soon as he feels up to it) or maybe have his brother call me tomorrow if possible. (His brother drove him to the ER today).

He is still bloated and in quite a bit of pain. Says he has lost about 20 lbs. now. YIKES! Had a really bad episode when they tried to put a stomach tube down and by mistake put the tube into his trachea, causing some bleeding and trouble breathing.

He is at the Scott and White Clinic which has a hospital - I think it is called the S. and W. Hospital. Wayne says it is THE hospital in his area and that it is a teaching hospital. The address he gave me is:

2401 S. 31st St.
Temple, TX 76508

Oh my.............I'll be glad when all of this is over. I am worried.

Love,

Polly

Oh gosh, I crossed my fingers for him that he'd have a good experience at the ER. After hearing about the tube experience, I guess I better do more than that. Poor Wayne. Thanks for staying on top of this . . Marsha

Oh My Gosh - thanks so much for the update, Polly! How awful, but I'm glad he went to the hospital. ImageImage about the tube.

PLEASE keep us updated about his condition. I will keep him in my prayers tonight.

Oh no

I am very upset and saddened by the current events; I didn't know Wayne was doing so poorly and had such significant problems - I've been away from the board too much to follow the most recent development.

Thank you very much, Polly, for letting us know about Wayne and what is happening to him. I am glad to know that he is in THE hospital in his area; I hope that wasn't where they damaged his trachea?! Intestinal surgery sounds very serious to me and it worries me greatly to know that Wayne is in need of this surgery. I know he must think it is necessary or otherwise he would have found another option. I can't help thinking that this problem is related to his recent rotation diet experiements but I hope this is not the case.

Polly, would he have had surgery already? (it is Sunday morning here)

When you speak to him again please be sure to let him know we think of him and love him - we can't wait to see his "smiley face" on the board again.

Love,
Karen

Poor Wayne, I hope he recoups quickly. Having just been laid up in the hospital I know how much it sucks. You can't sleep, you feel yucky. All that.

Give him my best.

It did sound to me as though he would need a lot of help to recover this time around. Sounded very much like what my friend was experiencing with a bowel blockage recently. Do they have an idea of what the blockage is? Sometimes you just have to resort to the doctors. Lets hope that he will be OK now after the surgery.

Love

Just stopped to check in for the weekend and found this!!! OMG I hope he's okay..

Trent and I will be thinking of him and hoping for the best!!!! Teaching hospitals are not so bad.. they do a lot of research and don't like to leave a person "undiagnosed".. maybe it will be to his advantage..

Love,
Christine
