Gabes, Check This Out For Mast Cell Information

Post by tex »

Hi Gabes,

As per your request, I hope that this will suffice for at least the basic information needed to begin to understand mast cells, and how they affect IBDs.

See what you think. We can continue to add information to this as we go. I think that I will also add these mast cell articles to the mast cell forum on this board that I created a week or so ago. As you read the articles you will see that I added an additional observation or two of my own, that I've never seen in the literature, but that surely should apply to this issue.

Tex,

FYI, I checked out the above site for the first time this morning and clicked on "What are mast cells" and also the next three articles and was not able to get back to the HOME PAGE by clicking on "Back to Home Page" at the bottom of these articles. I wonder if it was just my computer or if others experience this also.

A great resource. Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi Charlotte,

Hmmmm. They work fine for me. This could be a browser issue. I use the latest version of Firefox. I'm guessing that you use something else, such as IE. I haven't gotten around to checking it with any other browsers, yet. Or the problem could be related to the fact that these files are not yet installed on a domain of their own — they're just uploaded to a folder on the same server that hosts this discussion board. Does your regular browser "back" button work OK with these same pages?

Just out of curiosity, do the highlighted "back", "forward", and "print" buttons above the articles and on the main page seem to work properly?

Thanks,
Tex

Tex,

It works on "What is MC" and "What is not MC" but not on "Treatment Methods Found to be most Effective"

It also works on all the "Current Research Articles"

Back, Forward and Print also work

I have an Apple computer and use Safari for my browser

Thanks, I appreciate the info. I'll need to check that out before I set up the domain.

Hi Tex, great information!!!

I noticed the same issue, on the page with the information on mast cells the back button does not respond.

In checking it I used Apple iOs 6 on the ipad.

Thanks Joe,

I reckon I'll have to try to figure out a way to resolve that, before it's ready for prime time. Most sites expect the users to rely on the back button built into their browsers, and they don't even offer back buttons on various pages. I just thought it would be a nice touch to make navigation more convenient. Maybe this is the reason (it's not easy to make them work correctly in all browsers).

OK, I think I've got the link problems corrected. If they still don't work for you, please let me know.

Tex,

Everything works now except on "Treatment methods found to be most effective" the "Back to Home Page" at the bottom doesn't work.

This looks like it is a huge job for you to undertake. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it. This site should prove to be very helpful.

I enjoy reading all the posts however I don't have the time to respond.

Hmmmmmm. I can't see anything wrong with that link. :headscratch:

Maybe something will turn up to pinpoint the problem.

Thank you for checking it out,

OMG, just have to share. My MIL went in for a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago because her "IBS" symptoms were getting worse and she's been losing weight. She's already 95% gluten free (which I diagnosed a year ago, ending her horrible gas and bloating, but she can't seem to stop cheating from time to time, and doesn't read labels carefully). She also has Hashimoto's and bouts of full-body chronic urticaria and angioedema (once every 7 years, more often in recent years).

Anyway, I BEGGED her to ask her old-school, upstate NY GI doctor to stain her biopsies for mast cells. The doctor had never heard of it, thought it was rediculous, so I made her bring him an article ("Mast Cells in GI Disease"). He ordered the stain...and WHAMO!! They found INCREASED MAST CELLS!! She's giving me more details tonight. All I know is they said Gastrocrom is too expensive, so they told her to take Zantac. Apparently they ruled out a full blown case of ME.

Now her friend who runs the GI disease center at their local hospital wants to do an education session about mast cells. She'd never heard of them either!!

:raspberry:

Tex - WOW!

I don't know if Mast Cells is an issue for me, but something tells me I (or maybe all of us with MC) need to get a better understanding of what it is.

Thank you for all of your intense efforts.
