Budesonide - on vacation but in trouble

Post by birdlover3 »

I am on vacation, and yesterday started my weaning process on Budesonide.

I'm finding myself now constipated of all things. This is typical for me BEFORE MC happened while being on vacation and used to have to take a laxative while gone. I'm feeling bloated and don't want this to continue but not sure how to handle it. Yesterday I started drinking alot of water and even ate some "off limits" food last night in hopes to help my delimma but nothing this morning. Should I forget the Budesonide at least until I can go again? I hate to take a lax... In fear of what could happen.

A really need some advice. This is a weird feeling and at home I was going great. Thanks

At the very least, if I were in that situation, I would lower the dosage some more. I'm not sure what you mean by "off limit" foods, but more fiber, or a stool softener might be safer than other "off limit" foods or laxatives.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

What sometimes does work for me is is to drink two cups of water (not hot, not cold..but in the middle, don't know the English word;)), with fresh lemon-juice when you wake up, wait for 20 minutes, eat two kiwi's and go out to run or walk (and all of that on an empty stumach)! Not a realy nice start of the morning when you're on vacations...but, it works pretty well:)!
Hope you'll feel better soon!

Thanks I didn't think about a stool softener. I just went out and bought some. Will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks so much.

Oh no. I would lower the dose ( what are you on now?), but not stop it. Hope you find relief soon.

Leah, on Saturday I dropped down to 2 a day. So this morning I didn't take any at alln since it has been 3 days since I've gone. ..... Tex suggested I get a stool softener so I took the max dose of it and am drinking alot of water. This scares me.

Also I ate some spicy food. I haven't gotten my Enterolab tests back yet so I don't know what foods I could be sensitive to yet, but gee.... I can't get plugged up now. This is what always used to happen before MC. I always had to take a laxative on vacation. It appears it is time for me to wean off but.....

HI Birdlover,

I was an entocort user---generally the sign to step down to a lower dose is when you get constipated. Remember very long slow taper of Entocort at low end to minimize relapse chance when getting off.

Got straightened out using a stool softener, lots and lots of water, and some spivey food. I realize this is not the answer for everyone but I am back on track. I think the water was the big help. Back to my weaning dose of Budosenide and all is well
