Hi DebE,
Have you tried an antihistamine yet?
I've always been able to kick out of mini flares w/ 1 day of chicken soup and pepto but recently changed from HRT to bioidenticals and don't know if it was the stress of the change or what but I was thrown into a flare and could not get out of it. I'm started taking two of the clariton .5 reditabs a day--one in evening and one in am and within 2 days the flare resolved. I'm still on the clariton. I picked up a dairy free zyrtec and allegra but guess I'll give them to the boyfriend.

Hi Brandy,
I've tried nasal crom, Allegra and Zyrtec and neither do much for me. It doesn't even relieve the eye/sinus pain so I'll keep it to use for my seasonal allergies if the snow ever melts. Maybe I'll give Claritin a try- it couldn't hurt.
I had a good visit with my acupuncturist today. I actually started crying in her office due to the frustration of nothing working (or not working fast enough). I explained my whole story of wanting to explore the possibility of hypothyroidism and the dead end with my doctor. This was visit #13 so I was considering giving up. She told me not to give up before the miracle which has given me a lot to think about. We also had a good discussion about life in general and stress. She asked if I have to work after I explained my job. I primarily deal with unhappy, complaining residents all day and she said it is taking a toll on my health. I don't have options not to work so she said it will be an obstacle but something we'll have to work on. She put me on TRI-40 made by Progressive Laboratories starting out at one pill every other day. It has the following :
Iodine from kelp- 150 mcg
Sea kelp- 100 mg
Raw bovine thyroid conc (thyroxin free)- 40 mg
Raw porcine spleen conc- 40 mg
Raw bovine thymus conc- 40 mg
It's allergen free and my Enterolab result show I'm good with beef & pork
She said my eye issues are tied into my liver function which is all tied into my MC. She said it much better but that's the jist of it. It's just a relief to hear her say that since I'm used to being brushed off and being told I have excellent lab results so my health is as good as its going to get. She told me to give it a year. That was disappointing because I've been doing weekly appts since December and its hard financially and I'm missing work which always makes me nervous. Although, I'm not surprised.
I'm going to stick with it and hopefully will see improvements with the eye, neck, and headache issues. Dealing with the D seems like a piece of GF cake right now. The past couple weeks have simply been a bitch- the pain never stops and its going to drive me insane. I still have hope, so that will keep me going.

DebE--
You sound like you've just had it! I feel your pain...but don't toss the towel in yet. I also am paying out of pocket for my acupuncturist and I have gone to every other week. It is very costly, but I do feel ever so much better after I have gone to see her. She gave me some Chinese herbs on Monday to take. I have been resisting thinking I do not want to put one more thing that I am not sure of into my body. So far, so good and actually it has helped my constipation a bit. I am a long way from Norman, but feeling less like I am giving birth with each bowel movement. I was most worried about starting D again, but that has not happened either. Just "pencil poops".
Do you think you could go to every other week? I have dry eye as well, though not to the extent you have. I have had it for many years (long before I had any real problems with MC) and it did not dawn on me until I read your entries about dry eye that it was related to MC--but of course it is! Everything that I have been dismissive of and figured was just part of aging, seems to have a connection with the disease.
The pains that creep up around and under my ribs are just breath-taking at times--and then they disappear as quickly as they have come. I know that it is all part of the disease and flares, but I too, am tired of dealing with it. Today I am in the midst of filling out documentation to collect the money back on my airline ticket. It seems like the stress of trying to deal with the disease and figure out what to eat, plus finances and dealing with a lot of documentation is waaay too much at times. I have not been dealing with the really awful physical parts of this disease nearly as long as you have. You have a right to be frustrated and sometimes it is good for our health practitioners to hear our pain even if it means we need the outlet of tears.
Take care and if you need to throw a tantrum do so! It is safe to do it here because it seems to me that everybody here "gets it"!

One more thing---next week I am starting an 8-week course in Mindfulness Meditation led by a couple of psychologists who have been doing it for years. I think this may be very helpful in getting my stress levels under control.

Thanks Jane, I haven't thrown a tantrum in quite a while which I was pretty proud of. Guess I just needed to get re-orientated. I haven't asked to go every other week yet because I know I'm not ready. Hopefully that will come soon. I never had the eye issues until about a year and half ago. The neck and shoulder tension is even more recent- it's something new which is what set me off because it's always something in addition to the D. I have the same on and off issues like you. I try to keep a sense of humor and see what the malady of the day will be each morning.
The neck pain & headache has been so severe that I probably did something I shouldn't have at my last treatment.... I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be scolded. I prefer to feel the needles and let them turn it to a low painful stimulation in the neck/back of head area. It became uncomfortable but towards the end it seemed to have released the tension. So far the neck tension is pretty much gone but it has moved to the area between my shoulderblades. It is tolerable so I'm happy with the results of the treatment. I know it can be counter-productive to have the stimulation be set too high but it seemed to have helped in this time. I have a high pain threshhold and have already been told that the settings I choose are higher than the average person. Not sure what it means but it is what it is.
Your mediation class sounds wonderful!
I'm still in a lot of pain today but I had a good day. My visits seem to perpetuate an inner peace that I am enjoying.
