Remission

Post by dogfolks »

Does this disease go into remission periodically? I was diagnosed 1-1/2 years ago. In recent weeks my symptoms have mostly subsided. Will it come back or is this just a little reprieve?

Hi,

Yes, just as with any inflammatory bowel disease, some patients who have MC can experience periods of spontaneous remission. For most of us that rarely (or never) happens, but for a very fortunate small percentage of patients, periods of remission can be frequent, and in some cases even dominant. We have several members for whom spontaneous remission is somewhat common, but most of them tend to prolong the periods of remission by modifying their diet to at least some degree, though they are often not as strict about their diet as most of us have to be.

For such individuals, it's impossible to predict when a relapse will occur — it might be tomorrow, or it might be next year.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Hopefully, you will be one of the lucky ones, and it will last a long, long time.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Lucky You! I don't know if you have already taken gluten out of your diet, but if you have, I would not reintroduce it ! Otherwise, enjoy :)

Dogfolks, I was diagnosed in 2010, quit eating gluten and went into remission for about 1-1/2 years. In 2012 (I had a lot of stress) I had about a six month flare. I tweaked my diet and it improved. So far so good except for a few, brief day or two episodes.

I have been in my longest remission - 6 months and 2 of them with no Entocort. I had diarrhea from 2002 through 2012 with brief periods of normalcy. But watching the diet has been a major factor along with starting L-glutamine in 2012. I'm not taking that anymore either.
Also have sleep apnea
