An Afternoon Delight :-)

Post by wmonique2 »

Not what you're thinking!

A mug of almond milk, dash of cinnamon, dash of ginger, dash of turmeric. Zap for 2 minutes and there you have it!

Loaded with anti-inflammatories, curbs your appetite in the afternoon when you're having that midday slump and only 30 calories.

Try it!

Love,

Monique

I guess I could do it with coconut milk.

My cleaning lady tells me she puts oats with water, cinnamon and some honey in the blender with coconut milk, zaps it, and drinks it. Assures me it's delicious and also low cal.

Hi Monique and Leslie,

HAHAHAHAHA, my, we DO get creative with this disease, don't we? I recall someone rhapsodizing about their only safe dessert (was it you, Monique?). It consisted of a spoonful of nut butter and jam right out of the jars! It caught my eye because that would be my only safe dessert, too. Amazing how we learn to adjust, isn't it? My all-time favorite was a quote by moremuscle (Karen), who was one of the first here to find success with the paleo diet. She said "always carry a porkchop in your purse". LOL!

Love,

Polly

I love that Polly, "a pork chop in your purse". There have been times when I wish I had one! But some crisp bacon might keep better, plus there'd be the envy factor from everyone watching you eat it.

Monique, I enjoyed your afternoon delight recipe until I got to the curry powder. Somehow that kinda killed it for me-- but maybe some nutmeg or allspice?

Hello to all,

Lesley, let us know how your concoction turns out...

Polly------I wasn't the one with the dessert limitations, somebody else more rigid than I am  I go for dried fruits and cashews. And you're right, we are a creative bunch ...

Jean----where did you see the curry? No curry nowhere...turmeric is part of curry combinations but is not curry. I don't think I'd like it with curry either (yikes). Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory with very little taste. But your idea of allspice or nutmeg sounds great too...you can add a sweetener too, I add stevia.

As for the chop in your purse, I may come up with a design of a purse where you'd have another inside pocket for your chop, just like the spot for your cell. :-) or have it on the outside, see through. What a trend we would start!

Love,

Monique

Monique, I meant turmeric, not curry! Brain freeze. Have to say curry sounds even worse than turmeric though. But you still get an "a" for creativity.

And you might have a good idea for the purse with pork chop compartment. I like the see-through compartment aspect, so all could lust after it.

I believe I posted awhile back about my spoonful of delight...almond butter and jam. Goes well with spicy almond milk I'll bet!

Aaaah yes, it was you, Christine! LOL.

Monique, love the purse compartment idea! You may be on to something. Maybe the compartment could hold a cold-pack?

Polly

I cannot, CANNOT get used to Stevia. The aftertaste is revolting to me! I SO wish I could. I have tried so many types and none work for me.

Anyone got a foolproof make?

Polly,

HA HA HA HA! A cold pack to keep your chop in, in your see-through purse. You'll have the dogs of the neighborhood drooling and chasing after you!

Lesley---can you have a tbsp of honey? I don't believe it's more than 5 gr of carbs if you have diabetes...

Love you guys!

Monique, I tried your afternoon delight drink (minus the turmeric) and added some vanilla and a couple drops of stevia. I have to say I really liked it! A nice change from my usual cup of tea. And next time I might have it with a spoonful of almond butter and jam if I want to be really decadent.

No diabetes. I am a sugar addict. I cannot chuck the habit. I have tried and tried, but no dice.
I won't touch Splenda anymore (I miss it!), so am looking for a substitute/ I have bought every make of stevia on the market and have even ordered it on the internet to try some others have recommended. It's all disgusting in the extreme.
*sigh* - I guess I will always be an addict!

I like to stuff a nut (almond, walnut, pecan) into the hollow middle of a date. 5-6 of those is a great snack.
