going more often ???

Post by Leah »

Hey all. I have a question. Lately ( past few days), I have been going to the bathroom more often, but no D. Should I worry?

Normal is different for each of us. I have Normans at least 3-4 times every morning. Every once in a while I will only go once or twice. I guess if I suddenly started going 5 or 6 times a day I would be concerned. Have you changed your diet or eaten more than usual? Because of the MC I guess we are all super vigilant about a deviation from the norm.
Hope you are feeling well otherwise.

I think I know what it is. First I thought it could be this chicken salad I have been making with apples and celery. Then I thought it could be that I had more dark chocolate than usual.... but ( lightbulb) then I remembered that I bought a new probiotic for my daughter to take because she has gone through several rounds of antibiotics lately and I figured "why not take it also? It's a different brand then what you reacted to before". Kind of stupid, huh? That must be it. When will I realize that my system just doesn't like probiotics? ! About an hour after I posted the first post, I went again and that time was way too soft. That's when I realized it had to be something besides a little chocolate. I hope I'm right. Thanks Sheila :)

Leah, thank God you don't have to eliminate the chocolate! I mean-- some things should not be messed with. Chocolate is one of them.

Leah,

CHOCOLATE? What is it? A new kind of food? Never heard of it, my friends...

on a more serious note----when I started going more, I went back on mesalamine because my going more was accompanied with cramps and I knew I wasn't ready for prime-time YET.

Probiotics made me feel like hell. Going more and tons of nausea within 15 minutes after I took them. My rule now is to never take anything when everything is going well. DON'T ROCK THAT BOAT.

Love,

Leah,
Isn't it ironic that we can't take probiotics?
Isn't it sad that we have account for everything we put in our bodies because of the reactions? Well, maybe it is a good thing to be aware of it all, but it is tiring....especially as I try to figure out which of my many many spices have gluten!
I spend way too much time thinking about good foods/bad foods and potential reactions!

After getting sick enough times from God only knows what, it is easier to eat only a few very safe foods. I used to love to cook complicated dishes with lots of ingredients and tried to do it again after I started to feel better. I soon learned that simplicity in food is much safer. The modified paleo diet that works for me is mostly boring but I haven't gotten sick from something I made in a long time. I make bread, paleo muffins, GF chocolate chip cookies, homemade soup and meat stock. I don't feel totally deprived if I can once in a while have a cookie that tastes good with lots of chocolate chips and chunks.

After being GF, SF, EF, and DF for about 2 years, a simple diet of basic foods seems to be the safest. I take one probiotic, S. boulardii and don't even think about trying something else.

@Leah...that's probably the culprit. I remember when I first started taking Probiotics a few years ago and then noticed an increase in BMs. I'm with you.....staying away from Probiotics. So keep eating that chocolate! I actually ate quite a bit of chocolate a few weeks back and I think it got me sluggish....go figure. Glad you figured out it was the probiotics! Oh and congrats on doing well with tomato sauce! What was the name of the one you found? I eat one that has Canola oil in it and don't react but would prefer one without.

Terri,

what's the name of the sauce you found you don't react to? I don't react to canola but will to SOY and most of them have SOY OIL in them...so I don't even bother to see if I can handle tomato sauce or not...

@Idubois.... I guess it's a good thing that we don't need added probiotics. I was doing pretty well without them.

@Terri... the Brand of the tomato sauce is Sonoma Gourmet, but if you are not in California, I don't know if you'd find it. I can't even remember which store I found it in! I go to so many stores to get my groceries :)

Making a batch of butternut squash soup right now.... emersion blender time..... Love it

Leah...thanks....we are having a Sprouts put in nearby....hoping to find more stuff there. Butternut squash sounds really good! I used to buy the Butternut Squash soup from "Imagine" but that was back when I was having D. Have cut it out but haven't added it back in yet. It was GF and DF.

@ Monique...I buy Prego's heartsmart sauce with mushrooms. I don't recall there being soybean oil in it, but will make a note to check. If it does, then I totally don't react to soy which would be a good thing. Eat Prego all the time. I'm buying some this week and will double check the ingredients. I'm doing a soy test tomorrow. Kinda nervous as it's a lot of soy. We are making fajitas for my Dad's b-day and the marinade contains soy sauce (the g/f one of course) and I use Smart Balance oil in it also which has some soybean oil in it. We will see how it goes. I also bought some GF tortillas for the first time and hope they taste okay. For dessert I bought some So Delicious ice cream made with coconut milk. I hope I like it.

I did eat this marinade back when I was on Pepto and did well with it but now that I'm med-free, who knows!! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Terri,

IMO, the best corn tortillas are the Mexican brands, made from white corn. They have the best texture and flavor, by far. The tortillas sold by most to the bread companies (at least the ones that I have tried), have a bland, unappealing flavor, compared with the Mexican brands. They're also too dry, more brittle, and the texture is coarser.

My favorite brand is La Banderita, but the Guerrero brand is almost as good. The difference between these tortillas, and the ones distributed by most bread companies is similar to the difference between wheat bread and most GF bread — they just work better and taste better.

I will have to try those Tex. I've been eating Mission's corn tortillas and love them but wanted to try something new. Never had white corn ones before. I will look for those. Yeah....a little nervous about these GF tortillas I bought from Rudi's. Thinking they won't taste so good and they sure have a lot of stuff in them. Like 8 different flours! I also noticed they are high in fiber per tortilla so probably will stick with just one. (They are pretty big.) I do well with GF bread so hoping the ole gut tolerates these as well. But next time will look for your recommendations. Thanks!
