2weeks from today is my MIL's 90th birthday. We are planning a little get together and even Whole Foods catering menus doesn't have much other than fresh fruits and veggies! Any other ideas? I might have to make some stuff I can eat. Our son is a professional cyclist (he races for team Clif Bar), cannot tolerate gluten and dairy so I guess I will be cooking for at least two of us!
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by and that has made all the difference.

Hi KD,
I am also GF/DF. How about a couple kinds of hummus with GF crackers? Various kinds of olives from the market? Shrimp cocktail? Calamari breaded with cornmeal and served with marinara sauce? An antipasto tray with Boars Head or some other brand of GF deli meats and cheese (that you just don't eat), marinated artichokes, marinated mushrooms (check ingredients in the marinade, or do your own) and roasted peppers? White bean dip with tortilla chips? Bruschetta on toasts made from GF bread? These are my go-to appetizers.
If you aren't familiar with Living Without magazine, it is a great resource for me. Lots of good recipes that are tweak-able for multiple sensitivities. Gluten Free Delight is another magazine for folks with food issues, but I like LW better.

Do you eat nuts? I make this baked nuts with bacon pieces that everyone loves when I bring it.I also like mixed olives from a fresh olive bar. Proccuto wrapped roasted asparagus. Homemade guacamole and corn chips.
Let me know if you want a recipe. Look on the internet. Google "gluten/dairy free appetizers"

Okay here it is... I think I know it by heart.
-2 to 2 1/2 cups of any nut you like ( I use almonds and cashews)
-1 egg white
-1/3 cup sugar
-1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper ( I use a bit more)
-9 strips of bacon
-cut raw bacon into 1 inch pieces and cook until crisp
-pour about 2 TBsp. of grease onto a foil lined sheet pan
-mix the eggs whites, sugar , and spice together in a bowl and fold in nuts
-spread in single layer on sheet pan
-bake at 325 for 35 minutes, turning them half way through ( I sometimes stir in the bacon the last 10 minutes of cooking)
-let cool and stir in bacon pieces
-done!

Yummy ideas, thanks! BTW, my family fell in love with a new GF cracker this week. Yehuda brand GF Matzo crackers from Israel for passover! I bought the ones with added apple fiber. They were on sale at Whole Foods.
