Have to eat dairy products (pulling teeth): alternatives?

Post by Julie »

Hi everybody,

I have a little situation: I have to go the hospital. They will pull out 2 wisdom teeth. The procedure will be complicated because these teeth are growing against my jaw bone, so they will have to cut the gum around the teeth to pull it out.

Eating is out of the question, except for pudding, yoghourts and ice cream. A normal person would be happy, I , however, am not. I do not tolerate dairy products at all. I've tried several times, and I was sick every time.

What are the alternatives for me?

Grts

Julie

Julie, there are coconut yogurts and ice creams that might work. Can you have anything warm, like broth? How about mashed, frozen banana? Deb

Julie,

I sometimes eat Ciao Bella sorbets. Mango sorbet is one I know doesn't bother me. You have to read the labels because they use different gums or other ingredients to thicken it and if you are sensitive to any of them they could be a problem. Also they have a lot of sugar (which is why I only eat some occasionally) but they taste really good. Hope your procedure goes well. Mouth pain is not fun.

I've had good luck with the coconut and almond ice cream by "SO Delicious".

Hi Julie,

When I was about your age, I had to have 2 wisdom teeth chiseled out (which was similar to the procedure that you will have, except that dentists sometimes used rougher procedures back in those days). If I remember correctly, I ate things such as chicken soup, milk (of course, these days it would have to be almond milk or hemp milk), and ice cream. The mouth usually heals quickly, so after a few days, I was eating more normal meals (I just ate more slowly, and much more carefully).

If you have a food processor, you can grind up just about anything you want, and turn it into a smoothie.

Good luck with your procedure.

Hi Julie,

Some other ideas to try: jarred baby food, mashed sweet potatos, mashed white potatos, put chicken broth in your blender then put a piece of cooked chicken and give it a whirl, jello (might be too sugary)

I had 4 pulled at once at around your age. By day 3 and 4 I was doing pretty good--Tex is right the mouth heals fast.

Best wishes, Brandy

Julie - I make ice cream with coconut milk and agave syrup (although I have learned that it isn't the greatest, but my head will stay in the sand on that one). I flavor with fresh fruit, melted chocolate, vanilla paste. I usually add a little coconut oil and a teeny, tiny bit of xanthan gum to make it softer.

Mashed potatoes? Mashed yams? Monique's afternoon delight? Can you tolerate gelatine? Make jello. It's very good.

It shouldn't take long for you to heal.

Tex, I had it done when I was about 15. MUCH rougher than today. I swelled up like a football.

I don't remember swelling so much (I never do seem to swell very much), but I can remember a little bleeding out of my ears, afterward. I'll bet that doesn't happen, these days.

Hi everybody,

thank you so much for your replies. I will look for the coconut yoghourt and search for ice cream. I tolerate mashed potatoes.

The reason I put this post, I am doing so well lately. I don't want to relapse.

Thanks again,

Julie

i had have two teeth removed (where there was sawing of the jawbone done) in the past 6 months

avoid any foods/drinks that are too hot or too cold, Room Temp works best as the jaw will be very sensitive.

Mashed or food through the food processor. (baby food consistency) jelly (jello)
Rince the mouth with salt water after eating.

A childs/baby's toothbrush is good for brushing the rear teeth near where the wisdom teeth are removed, to minimise vibration near the bruised jaw.

hope this helps

Thanks!!

My wisdom teeth removal was similar to the one Tex endured. I think the dentist used a hammer and chisel and possibly a chain saw to chop the teeth out. My face swelled up and I was very, very uncomfortable. I don't remember what, if anything, I ate.

Rinsing with warm saline water is very soothing and healing. Try a smoothie made with frozen banana, frozen peaches, frozen mango, frozen raspberries, frozen strawberries and apple juice. You could use milk of some kind rather than juice.

You are fortunate dentistry has progressed past the hammer and chisel method of 40-50 years ago.

Good luck!
