Yeast Infection
Hi Everyone!
It's been a while but, I have been doing OK. I usually get by with 1 Immodium every few days. Still no solid complete Norman.
However,
I thought I was starting to get a yeast infection and I had a Diflucan rx in my cabinet so I decided to just take it. (More of a prevention of the infection since I thought I was getting one). And BOOM, solid Normal for my next BM!! What does this mean? Do I have an over growth of yeast or candida??
Thanks,
Jenny

Fascinating! I've often wondered what might happen if I took a Diflucan. Did you test positive for yeast with Enterolab? I did.
I'm on prednisone which has a tendency to cause yeast overgrowth. Some people get thrush, etc. I think I've noticed more yeasty changes, but not enough to cause symptoms. I wonder if that will make the MC better or worse once I'm completely off the medication. For now, prednisone has completely stopped all my MC symptoms, even at lower dosages (15 mgs/day right now). I understand that once I'm below 10, all the old aches and pains should return.

Hey Z!
Yes, so I took the Diflucan on Saturday (I think?) and I have been having Normans ever since!
For the past few months I have had nothing but D and soft piles I even went on prednisone a few weeks ago. I didn't want to go over 20mg bc I didn't want the other side effects. It helped me for a few days and then my D was back. I lowered my dosage and stopped the prednisone bc I feel like it wasn't helping. It's the same with ALL the other colitis meds, I have seriously tried them all with the same results-would work for a few weeks and then stop.
So that's when I thought about candida and maybe it was a possible yeast overgrowth triggering my LC.

Hi Jenny, I noticed when reading the book the "Yeast Connection" one of the symptoms was "jock itch" for men. That has been a problem occassionally and while researching Candida online found that it can be passed between partners in a relationship. Since the med you took is an anti-fungal and now you have normals is interesting. I had the same happen when I took my antibiotic for dental work but only had normals for two days. Are you still having normals? I found that a yeast infection for a women is caused by the same etiology as a jock itch for men. Is it the same fungus that is found on the feet and toes? Jon
I've only had one or 2 full-blown yeast infection in my life, many years ago. But I do recall a midwife at planned parenthood telling me I had yeast during my routine exams (even though I had no symptoms). I was on birth control pills back then, which I think alters Ph and promotes more yeast growth. If my MC symptoms rage back when I'm off prednisone, I'm totally going to ask for a Diflucan. I've read in some places than the typical one pill isn't enough, and you should take more (not sure if it was 2 at once, or a second pill a few days later) to truly kill off the yeast.
