Thanks for sharing! Just noticed carrageenan is in my "Toms of Maine" toothpaste! Luckily, I don't swallow the stuff. But is that good enough. I finally find a GF toothpaste and it's got this in it! Can someone recommend me a toothpaste? Colgate can't confirm 100% that their toothpaste is GF. Is there even one out there that doesn't have carrageenan in it?

Please tell me how to make my own almond milk. It seems that the brands of coconut milk & almond milk found in my area have carrageenan or multiple 'gums' in them...yek!

I don't seem to react to small amounts of it, though.

Linda...hopefully I would think that we wouldn't ingest enough in a toothpaste, but who the heck knows. I'm just happy it's 100% GF!
Yep...my almond milk has locust bean gum. I'll keep drinking it as I don't react to it. No carrageenan though...thank goodness.

The mouth is lined with mucosal tissue, somewhat similar to the mucosa of the intestines. Antigens in food can activate mast cells and other immune system modulators in the mouth. You're probably correct that IgA-based reactions due to trace amounts of gluten are not likely to be triggered in the mouth, but people who have classic IgE-based allergic reactions to certain foods are definitely at risk if those foods contact the mucus membranes of the mouth, including the lips. It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I use Spry toothpaste it is carrageenan free and has xylitol to help prevent dental carries. Look it up, all of the xylitol products can be very helpful to prevent illness. go to Xlear.com
Carrageenan is not only toxic to our guts but has been proven to cause cancer!! I have avoided it for years and as we dairy intolerante know it is difficult to find alternatives to dairy that do not contain it.

I used to have Spry gum & mint, but since the MC....all sugar alcohols are a no no. I used to have the toothpaste, too. Thanks for the reminder, and i's great it doesn't carrageenan in it.

I would never have considered Carrageenan to be a problem without you alerting me. I remember being on vacation and looking at Applegate? GF deli meat for my sandwich. I noticed their meats all had Carrageenan and I had to find another choice. Thanks to you, I began using Boar's Head, and thanks to Zizzle, I now use Safeway's Primo Taglio turkey, which works for me. I freeze it into small packages and put the slices on corn tortillas with either avocado or my homemade salad dressing for my away-from-home meals, including on the plane.

I soaked the nuts when I visited my daughter, but didn't need to make a full batch of milk there, so I froze the remaining skinned, blanched nuts and brought them home. Once home, I was able to make a fresh batch of milk without having to wait to soak them first. It worked perfectly, and I think I'm going to have a frozen batch on hand, ready to process. I have a frozen quart of milk, but it takes quite a while to defrost, and the fat separates.
I use Colgate Cavity Protection, per a dental hygenist's recommendation.

Tex, regarding your comments about the mouth and mucosal tissue - for the past several weeks I have had large, painful canker sores in my mouth and on my tongue. I was quick to blame a new supplement prescribed by my ND for adrenal function until it occurred to me that I had started chewing some GF gum my husband found for me at a GF grocery store. When I checked the ingredients, it has sorbitol. My gut has always reacted to any kind of sugar alcohols/artificial sweeteners, Xylitol being the worst. Within two days of discontinuing the gum chewing, the canker sores disappeared.

Gloria, I made your almond milk recipe on Sunday, and it was wonderful! It didn't take as long as I thought. Removing the almond skins went quickly, and it was sort of fun. I put one painters strainer inside a second one, and it did a pretty good job. Need to pick up some organdy this week. Like you said, it is very creamy and far superior to the purchased product, not to mention no additives and costing quite a bit less.
