Remember Camryn? She Was Diagnosed At 2 1/2 Years Of Age.
Hi All,
Remember Camryn? Her mom joined this site in 2008 on Camryn's behalf. And within a few months after making diet changes based on the information her mother found on this site, Camryn was in remission, much to the chagrin of her team of doctors, who wanted to prescribe Entocort EC, because they insisted that diet changes would make no difference. I hope those doctors learned a lot about treating the disease from Camryn, and her brave mother. It takes guts to stand up to a team of doctors at a respected hospital, and tell them that they are wrong.
As far as I am aware, Camryn has been in remission ever since, and today should be her 7th birthday (if my math is correct). I'm sure she won't be reading this message, but I hope that she is having a happy, healthy birthday, today.
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Happy Birthday, Camryn!
Camryn! I hope you and your family are doing well.

Aww, thanks everyone! Yes, she just turned 7! She had a great big birthday party with her friends at a bouncy place. She is doing great. As long as she is GF, she is symptom free. She goes for a yearly checkup with her pediatric GI Dr. and she just had her appointment last week. She is doing great in terms of growth. They still can't believe she doesn't have Celiac...so they had her blood tested for HLA typing. I told them I already knew her genetics and that it wasn't consistent with Celiac. Anyhow, they did the test and it came out the same as Enterolab. We had a couple of instances lately where she accidentally got gluten and she got her typical reaction. But the episodes end quickly, so that is good. For the most part, she has no issues and is completely fine.
Her baby sister (who turns 2 on Sunday) has even more food intolerances (milk, soy, gluten, chocolate, fructose), so we are dealing with that as well. Her scopes were negative for Lymphocytic Colitis.
I hope everyone is doing well!

Hi Laura,
Thanks for the update. It's great to hear that she's doing so well. And that's good news that you caught her sister's food sensitivities before she developed LC.
I couldn't help but notice that most of the foods to which she is sensitive (other than gluten) are histamine-releasing foods (a lot of soy products also have a high histamine content). That suggests that she might possibly have mast cell activation disorder (MCAD). If avoiding those foods (or other high-histamine or histamine-releasing foods) is not sufficient for controlling her symptoms, many members here have found that an over-the-counter antihistamine often brings relief. For some, a daily antihistamine seems to work as well as a corticosteroid for controlling GI issues.
FOODS THAT CONTAIN HISTAMINE OR CAUSE THE BODY TO
RELEASE HISTAMINE, INCLUDING FERMENTED FOODS
