Source for chestnut flour

I was checking out one of the buylocal websites last November and found a local chestnut grower that sells chestnut flour. Called Joel http://www.usachestnuts.com/ his phone number is on the website. I wasn't sure if we were allowed to post phone numbers. Anyways had a good conversation with Joel last November while he was in transit driving to New York City to drop off a load of chestnuts to be sold on the street. He advised me he wouldn't start making the flour until after the holidays as November and December he drives up to Philly and NYC to sell chestnuts to the street vendors. He told me to c/b after the holidays. The boyfriend thinks it is ridiculous that I'm forced to pay $12.00 per bag for almond flour from Publix so the boyfriend reminded me to check back with farmer Joel. Talked with farmer Joel last week and he dropped two bags of chestnut flour by the house for $7.00 per pound. Tried a recipe over Easter and things turned out well. Joel is winding down his stone grinding and expects to be still grinding for the next 4-6 weeks at which time he'll be out of product until next jan/feb. Price on website is I think $7.00 per pound plus ups which brings it to $12.00 delivered. Product was fresh, i.e tasted sweet when I did the wet finger on flour test. Since Joel was so kind to drop the flour by my house I told him I'd post his info on our forum. You can buy directly from the web or call Joel. Be forewarned he's a big talker if you call.

PS. Chestnut flour was used in baked goods by the Italians during World War II, was used by the Italians during times of famine going back to medieval times and may have been used by Roman soldiers.
