Update with Surgeon and other things.
Surgeon says I have 90% mobility right now..all looks well. He took out my staples yesterday and took me off Hydrocodone and gave me Darvacet instead. I am having some depression issues now. I went to PT On Monday and lost it...so My PT had me speak with the other therapist there (mental) anyway it could be hormones / my emotional issues/and or a combo of both. I habe to try and make an appt with primary when I can drive and talk about that. Plus I am going to talk with this nice therapist lady and see what she can do. We got somewhat into my issues. well got to run for now I am in tears again. LOve Oma
Hi Oma. You should give yourself a big pat on the back! You've done the right thing and I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision or any easy operation. Probably you had a lot of pent up emotion that finally bubbled to the surface and that is perfectly normal IMHO. So just go ahead and wail about all you've been through...and then look on how well you have done and how far you have come. You're a survivor and one heck of a nice lady. We're all with you 100%.
Love,
Carrie

OMA~~~~~~
My dear Oma----the good news is to hear you are doing so well--
Is the pain as bad or is it lessening??
And let me tell U---understand when all of a sudden U lose control of yourself----
It;s like all your defenses have fallen away and there U stand alone and just
In my opinion I would say its more emotional than anything else---U have been thru alot and you wonder --how much more can one take~~~
seeing a therapist is the best---i see mine tomorrow---and she validates all my feelings--and then i feel much better--
take care and know we are all for you--
much luve

I'm not surprised you are having depression problems, Oma, but I KNOW you'll soon be you old self. You have been and are going through a LOT and it does take it toll, but hopefully you will soon be walking better than ever with no more pain. How wonderful that will be.

Oh Oma,
Please don't !!!! You have done so well getting through the operation and you have 90% mobility already so your making great progress.
I broke an ankle years ago and went through a rough year with a couple surgeries, lot's of pain meds and being laid up for a long time. I got crazy and depressed too and it was tough on my family but as the pain subsided and I was able to handle it without meds and get up and about own my own my attitude adjusted quickly.
Hang in there and keep posting. It's very theraputic for all of us.
Love,
Joanna

It's the medicine. That stuff throws you off kilter. (Of course I wouldn't have wanted to go through the surgery without it!)
What does your doc mean by 90% mobility? That you have 90 degrees of bend? That's great and it will get better with the therapy. I think mine was about that at 2-2 1/2 weeks. At six weeks it was 115 degrees. I can ride my bike and walk up and down stairs like a normal person now. Well, a normal slow careful person.
Anyway, I am sorry you fell apart, but we all do it and it sounds like you did it a good place! The therapists sounded very supportive and I'm glad you have them. If you feel like crying, go ahead. Sometimes it is good to have a cry. But you'll feel mcuh better soon, I promise!

Dear Oma, there is something that no one here has mentioned, and the reason I know is because I have had quite a few, not the same as you, but some were heavy duty. Anyway, I just happened to be in the hospital still when I got hit with a bad bought of depression and crying my eyes out. Fortunately I had a doctor who sat with me and told me that this was often a side affect of the medicine given to you when you are put out. Some people experience it more then others. Maybe we do more so because our systems are already lowered or something, I just know that I went through the same thing each time I had surgery. I would forget all about the last time until I started the crying, once again, and it would hit me, oh yeah, that's right I did this the last time. I mean it didn't make it vanish, but I knew why it came up so suddenly, and I had a counceller to talk to, and that got me through. I hope you do have the chance to take up on the councelling, like I always say 'It can't HOIT" ( and if you didn't recognise the accent I tried to use there, I was saying 'it can't hurt."
Just trying to add a bit of funny in there. But I know this is not a funny issue, and I hope that you get to talk to someone soon. I know it must be hard if someone has to drive you. But it is a really good idea, it is never easy to have such a surgery and then have all these things coming up,I wish you the best. k
Gentle hugs
Wendy
Now if I could only figure out what I am doing wrong when I try to host a picture for you.....its maddening.

Well, OMA, the others have beat me to almost everything I wanted to say. It's a little far past your operation to suggest this, but I always try to drink plenty of fluids, including lots of water after a surgery to flush the anesthesia, pain meds, etc. on out the body. They can make one feel pretty low.
Also, are you in a position to safely get a little more sunshine? It wouldn't have to be direct sunshine, I guess. Do you have a good window to look out. etc.? Also, sometimes one just gets tired of the confinement. Perhaps you could invite over some people you've not had much chance to visit with since the surgery.
Heck, why not throw everything at the problem! I'm glad you'll get a chance to talk with a professional as well. Good for you on that, and also, for making such apparently fast progress. You must be working especially hard in PT.
Yours, Luce

Wow Oma!! 90% mobility is a great accomplishment this soon!! You must be working very hard with your physical therapy..
I feel your pain as far as the depression that you are dealing with.. I'll share something with you.. I took it upon myself 2 weeks ago to seek some much needed help for depression and anxiety.. I have not been who I use to be for a long time now.. I have given all of myself to others. And I know that what I am experiencing has not happened overnight. It is an accumultation of suppressing alot of issues for probably the last 10-12 years.. So, I have met with the doctor that prescribes the meds and I'm waiting for an appt. to talk to a therapist.
To put a little humor in my situation, I have stated that after a few sessions with the therapist, She will probably be the one on the couch, and I'll be taking the notes!!!!
Hang in there Oma!!! There has to be light at the end of our tunnels!!!!!
Love You
