Filtered water/ Bottled water

Hi all,

Anyone know if the commonly stored bottled water at the grocery store qualifies as "filtered water" or better? I'd like to start drinking only "filter" quality at least, so I'm looking for method of getting it that's easy.
I keep those little bottles with the nipples on top for my mom, and that way, it's not so easy for her to tump them over, and also, it allows us to be sure of the amount of water she's getting in a day. Point is that we already have the little bottles handy, so if they are at least "filtered" quality, that would be ideal.

It should state on the bottle or gallon jug of water whether it is filtered or not!!
If in doubt, ask someone where you buy it from!

Hi Lucy,
Here is Arizona, because the tapwater tastes so bad, a lot of people have reverse osmosis systems. If you were to go to Home Depot or Lowes, you could look at a few models. You should be able to buy one for $200 or less. My husband installed it himself and it wasn't too hard. It has really saved us the hassle of buying water and carting it from the store to the car to the house. Otherwise, I don't know about your question, sorry. Marsha

I use Brita like Polly and they are really quite inexpensive compared to others. It filters well and I just have the pitcher that we fill up daily. Our water at the new house is heavily cholorinated and I abhore the tast so Brita was the solution.

I distill my own water.. have used a water distiller for over 10years. One of our sons has a tendency to kidney stones and the calcium content in our water was super high. He now distills his own water since he got married... gave him my old distiller and got a new one at Sears...

Hi grannyh, is the calcium like that where you're living now, or where you somewhere else at that time?

Polly or some of you long-timers (hmm, sounds better than old-timers, doesn't it!) --
when Dr. Fine recommends filtering water, what specifically is he wanting filtered out?
I think the food tasting mineral water that I drink a little of periodically is as pure as can be. If the filter on the tap filters out all the minerals, would it be adviseable to make up for the loss of those minerals by increasing the amount of mineral water I consume. This is good stuff -- get it on sale at Whole Foods occasionally -- comes from deep underground in Idaho. Wish it came in glass bottles though. Anyone else ever tried that?

There is high calcium content in our water here in texas... that is why I started filtering it...and there seemed to be a lot of silt or somethng in it as well. I tried the reverse osmosis thing and it was installed wrong and garbage disposal refuse was getting into the clean water.. decided it would just distill the water and IKNOW what i had..

We have lots of it over here as well -- leaves lots of deposits wherever water drips or touches anything.

I use distilled water as well. It was mentioned in a book I was reading regarding adrenal fatigue and I seem to have some chemical sensitivities. It has helped but I also worry about not getting the minerals etc.

What is the difference in filtered water? I don't know if I have ever noticed it in the store, but then haven't looked either.
