Tetanus shots
Thinking about getting one. It's been way too long. Like 30 years too long. Has anyone had a tetanus shot lately? Did you have any side effects with regards to MC?

I had the shot 2 months ago..... actually it was the DTP shot (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis combo), and had no problems, not even a sore arm. I was going to be helping out with a new granddaughter, and there has been an outbreak of pertussis (whooping cough) in the area. It was recommended that any caretakers of babies be immunized, since it can be very serious and life-threatening to little babies. When I found out that my veterinarian had contracted whooping cough, and was basically unavailable for several months while she recovered, I took the warnings seriously and decided to go ahead, even though I was a bit nervous about it. I took the combo DTP instead of just the pertussis shot because it had probably been several decades since I was immunized against tetanus and thought it prudent to get that one too.

Hi Mandy,
As you know, a tetanus booster is recommended every 10 years, but the antibodies probably last much longer than that. If you are really concerned about a reaction, you can always have your current antibodies tested first.
Actually, I did have a reaction to my last booster - hives, itching. But it was probably because I misjudged and it had only been 7 years after the previous one.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
I don't think I've had a booster shot since I had the required immunization in 1955. I'm not opposed to getting one; I don't think any doctor has suggested it to me and I've never requested one.
I thought I'd need boosters when I travelled out of the country, but apparently it wasn't necessary. I've travelled to Europe twice, Central America and Brazil without needing shots.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
