Wayne is going home

Post by Jean »

Hi All,

Just talked to Wayne. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances, he's going home about noon. He says they are releasing him because they don't know how to feed him. LOL

He says he'll try to get on the board tonight, if he feels up to it. He sounded good.

Love, Jean

Barbara,

No news on the mass yet. They told him today would be the soonest possible day to get the results, but don't expect them yet.

Thanks for the update, Jean. It will feel great to sleep in his own bed, that's for sure. I hope he'll be able to eat a little bit. I can't imagine why the biopsy has taken so long. Maybe Wayne is just a complicated guy! Hoping for the best.

Barb, where are you going?

Thanks for the update Jean! That is frustrating about the wait from pathology - but I can't help but think that is good news - it seems from what I hear that doctors can usually pretty quickly tell if something is malignant :???: I've never heard of it taking so long....perhaps they are trying to classify/categorize it?

I'm sure Wayne will be more comfortable at home

Oh, this is wonderful news! Funny, about the hospital not knowing how to feed him. He's such a card.

Sounds like Wayne found a way to be set free
I don't doubt the hospital didn't know how (or what) to feed him. His diet is awfully limited.
I know he will be glad to get home and I sure hope he has a speedy recovery and especially GOOD NEWS when the report does (finally) come in.

Thanks for the news, Jean.

Thanks for the update! He was saying he was having a very hard time sleeping in the hospital bed, so hopefully he gets some good rest when he gets home. I'm going to try to call him later.

Well, if anyone can sleep in a hosptial bed, or just plain a hospital, I'd like to meet them! What with nurses checking in on you several times a night, and a different nurse checking your roommate several times a night on a different schedule, and the guy across the hall watching MASH at 11pm! Glad he is well enough to get home. I know I felt better almost immediately.

Best Wishes Wayne. Do take it easy...you have just had major abdominal surgery. Listen to your body and REST when it says so! (Or so I"VE been told).

Welp, they didn't know how to feed us BEFORE we got M.C., so wouldn't expect em to know how to feed us afterwards! Ha!

I need to check with our local celiac group to see if there's a service we could provide to hospitalized gluten sensitive persons, if there isn't already one in place. Suppose if it's a married guy who's had the disease a long time, his family would bring him stuff, but what if it's a single man or woman? Our group is sooo big and active, that I'll just betcha we could share the load quite easily. Course we'd have to organize it by zip code or something. Unfortunately, our members don't all live close enough to Houston to be reachable with this service. Maybe they should just come here for hospitalization and take a vacant room at the home of a healthy celiac? How does that sound?
Other nearby celiacs could continue bringing dishes to the hosting household so that household wouldn't have to have the rest of the burden. An option would be to pick them up when healthier, and take them to known "safe" and accommodating restaurants when they were able to get out some. I think that some have been active long enough now that they enjoy getting to know one another.

By the way, we have a man in our group (at the meeting last Sat. afternoon, matter of fact) whose home was destroyed by Rita, so he moved here, and our group has adopted him, apparently. As it turned out, we had a member who was misdiagnosed as celiac (guess the damage to the small bowel musta been caused by something other than gluten)
so the gluten free items were all donated to this man.

However, one thing that was discovered with evacuees from New Orleans was that most of them didn't fool with buying special products, apparently eating things known to be naturally free of gluten. This is kind of the way that I do things now -- just a little harder with the other "allergens" to be left out.

Can't wait to see a post from Wayne!
