Jane,
Have a read of this information on how they measure cholesterol, and why a high number can actually be good, or at the very least doesn't mean what your doctor thinks it means:

I don't know what your diet looks like, but for some people when they cut out gluten they end up with a pretty healthy meat and veg type diet. Others go overboard on the GF junk food.
Anyrate, if you have tended towards a more basic diet, you may be experiencing the effects Griff talk about in this series of posts. Your 'high' cholesterol may not be a problem at all.

Exactly, Bifcus! We must have been reading the same stuff. That is why I am appalled that my doctor got so wound up over it. Since my diet has been mostly meat and some vegetables, I was a little surprised that the numbers were back down. That's what makes me think that my body was in crisis and my liver was in overdrive trying to pump out cholesterol. This time my BUN was on the high side of normal and I surmise that it is because of the protein I am eating these days. He did not say a word about my BUN. This is why it pays to read and learn before you see your doctor.

I think the Aussies have so much more going for them in the way of information and communicating the latest research. It is indicative of the horrible lack of care we Americans receive (or not) that when we compare with other countries, we don't even seem to come close! I'm so glad that people like Gabes and Lyn are willing to share.
