Now I have "C"! How to solve this correctly

Post by birdlover3 »

I went GF but now I have "C" (can't find the thread that talked about this before). Before MC I was always regular with my raisin bran cereal, but now being GF I can't eat it. What should I do to get back on track? I tried taking a couple of stool softeners but didn't help so far. I know I can eat something spicey and that will do it, but not sure that is the way I should solve this problem, as I'm sure it will just irritate my gut and won't be good.

I really need help with this. Trying to decide if I'm eating too much cheese (I like it with my corn tortillas at lunch), or chocolate (love the GF brownies), or just what I should do. I will try to drink more water, but can those of you who have experienced this chime in?

The GF "crunchy flax" that I have been adding to my Chex cereal in the morning doesn't appear to be helping. Would love to be able to find a bran cereal I could eat in the mornings that always did the trick. Been several days and I'm getting concerned. Thanks, B

Barb,

Cheese has traditionally been considered to be a common cause of constipation.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Barb, I am C prominent with my LC. Fruit seems to be the one thing I adjust that will give me results. I also take I teaspoon of Citrucel every day (under the supervision of my GI doc) to add bulk and help keep moisture in. I don't eat too many GF grains like bread or brownies but when I have I think they add to the problem rather than help it.
I can eat apricots, apples, and grapes easily and if I over eat them I know it-- things are much softer then. So you may want to look in the direction of fruit.

Tex is right. Cheese constipates.

How about the ole glass of prune juice? the kind with pulp in it...in the morning everyday..it should do it.

The only way stool softeners worked for me was to take the 24 hour max dose all at once at night. Good luck.

Barb,
I continue to fight the "C" battle and it is brand new for me. Until early January I had not had a C day in my life! Now it is an everyday occurance and is such a nuisance! Flax seed oil seems to be somewhat helpful. I've heard Coconut oil is good too, but I am allergic. You might try it.

If you need a quick fix, Phillips Milk of Magnesia always worked for me when I had C back in 2011. I had it so bad that I developed anal fissures, not fun! Maybe that's why I don't mind the D so much now... it doesn't hurt to go

Anyway, I don't know if Phillips Milk of Magnesia is harmful to the gut, if not, it was a life saver. Over night relief without the cramping and running to the bathroom like a laxative would normally do.

That's why I'm afraid of having this "D" thing. I loved my raisin bran in the mornings to keep me regular. I was like a clock before MC. I hate to think that I'm going to have to rely on Milk of Magnesia or stool softeners or Citrucel other things. Years ago, I had "C" often until I finally found my lifesaver which was the daily raisin bran thing. Now I can't have that ....

Isn't there any GF raisin bran????? There must be. I've looked but can't find any.

I'll try the Citrucel, and maybe prune juice (YUK).

Thanks for everything! Barb

I believe I have found my solution for my "raisin bran" fiber situation. I am using a GF cereal in the mornings that works. The brand is "Enjoy Life" and it is Perky's Crunchy Flax with 6 mg of fiber and 540mg omega-3's.

I use it along with my GF cinnamon Chex cereal and this is keeping me regular now. At first I wasn't eating alot of it, but now I'm eating about 1/2 this and 1/2 the Chex. It's very crunchy and has a nice flavor.

It's good to be regular again!!!! Hope this helps others too. I found mine in Kroger grocery chain and it's also in our local health food store. Don't know if Jewel carries it but I wouldn't be surprised. Barb

I forgot to mention that this Crunchy Flax cereal is made from sorghum flour, ground flax seed, honey, raisin juice concentrate and salt.
