Scratch test for food allergies
Has anyone done this? Since living in New York State means no Enterolab or MRT testing, I figured I could try this.

The scratch test is only good for identifying what I'll call "true allergies", meaning something that begets an IgE mediated reaction (e.g., hives). It's no good for identifying food intolerances--those things that cause other-than-IgE-mediated reactions. You could try for an IgG food "allergy" test. It would at least give you a starting point for foods to eliminate from your diet.
Even the arrogant (expletive deleted) food allergist I saw admitted that scratch tests are pretty worthless for most people and I would think more so for people with sensitivities and not full-blown allergies, so I would save my money for something more accurate.
I still think that there is a way to get the Enterolab test done without a lot of trouble (legally) for you. That law is only so that doctors can make more money in New York.

Joanne,
I am sure that there is a way to figure out how to get the Enterolab test done. One thing that occurs to me is that you can use someone from out of state to order it. That person will then ship the kit to you. You can then ship the kit back to that person using Fedex same day delivery and they can send it back to Eneterolab, maybe even the same day. There are lots of people on this forum who would be wiling to help I am sure. I am one of those people but perhaps there is someone closer than me. I have no idea how much Fedex same day cost but it is probably better to spend the money that way than to waste it on testing that will not be helpful.

Jean is absolutely correct.
We did some creative planning for my niece. My state also doesn't allow ordering from labs out-of-state. My niece has a friend in the next state, who ordered the test for her over the phone, using my niece's name in care of her (friend's) address. Then, my niece picked up the test kit from her friend's house. She then had to take the completed kit to a FedEx in the next state to send off. It all worked well. BUT, she was lucky - she lives only a short distance from the neighboring state.
Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your advice and opinions. I am going to cancel my scratch test.
The only neighboring states that I am close to are PA (3 hours) and OH (4 hours) The others, NJ, CT, MA and VT are approx 6-7 hours.
Jean, I don't care about the cost. I have some money in my savings account and my health is worth it. Where do you live again? I will do fed ex over night and pay you in advance to send it over night to Enterolab. You have no idea how much I appreciate your help.
Obsessedmrfixit... I did have a rast test done (IgE), is there a difference?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
