What is wrong with me??
I am on my 5th week of Entocort (9mg daily). I have been GF, DF, SF as well as no fruits, veggies, nuts (not even nut butters), no eggs, no chocolate
I have rice chex with unsweetened vanilla almond milk every morning.
A banana for a snack, sometimes apple sauce for a snack.
Chkn/rice dish for lunch or GF pasta with chkn
Sweet potato for dinner
Corn chips for snack
And yet, my stomach becomes so distended and painful... constant pain. Even my stretchy pants are tight! I still have D but only once or twice a day instead of 5x. I'm still exercising faithfully in the morning but it doesn't seem to be helping me mentally anymore
I thought the Entocort was working at first but now I'm not so sure.

I was thinking the same thing.... antidepressants? Hormones?.... you could also be one of the unlucky ones who maybe can't eat chicken. Might want to try pork or beef instead. .... or maybe it's the rice Chex. Maybe the corn chips. So sorry you are still having issues. This is all detective work for each of us.
Were you bloated before you went on Entocort? Perhaps it's not the right med for you.

Tex, here are my daily meds and supplements:
Prozac 20mg daily... down from 40.
Albuteral inhaler and Qvar steroid inhaler for asthma twice a day
Entocort 9mg daily
Vit D sub lingual (GF,SF,DF)
The past two days I began Isotonic OPC-3 http://www.shop.com/Isotonix+reg+OPC+3+ ... 9-p+.xhtml and Isotonic vitamin B complex http://www.shop.com/search/vitamin+b+12 ... 4&k=15&t=0 I called Market America and questioned the added ingredients and they were safe (GF, SF, DF). I'm not taking it tomorrow just to see if I notice a difference.
I have been more stressed lately, can't seem to catch up at work, can't concentrate, still sad about my recent break up, also sad because I want to go on the dating site but I'm not well.
I am seeing a rheumatologist in a few weeks for possible lupus. Reading about lupus has me so confused.
And yes Leah, the bloating and pain was always my main problem more so than the D

I can address the bloating issue because I have it a lot...but the last 5 days I have totally cut out fruit from my diet, and very very limited sugar intake. I think this has helped.
I only eat very cooked veggies like squash, green beans, carrots, and proteins. I do eat nut butter, that I make myself, because I soak the nuts and then dehydrate them...to make them easier digestible. I can't eat sweet potatoes for some reason.
Is the pain all day, or later in the day & evening?
Leah's right ....it may be any of the foods you're eating that you're reacting to. Have you done the Enterolab testing to see what to avoid? That really helped me.

Hi Linda... the pain usually starts right before breakfast, then breakfast makes it worse. This is just the last few days now,I was actually doing better.
Yesterday the bloating was in the morning even before my coffee... I have one cup only with almond milk. I went to bed with the bloating Tuesday night.
Now it's even bubbling/gurgling... that hasn't happened in a while.

I know just how you feel! You're reacting to something....but what?
I just had two weeks of burbling/gurgling, bloating, & gas...but usually through the evening and night. Sometimes though I did wake up with it, too.
I discovered that the digestive enzymes, gluten free multivitamins and antihistamine (whole food supplements) I was taking contained oats, and lactose....so they were aggravating it.
Your thinker gets tired, doesn't it?

Joanne,
I was eating chicken and rice until I got my results from enterolab and discovered that I can't eat either chicken or rice. Big blow!
I started eating only beef and mashed potatoes, and the gurgling stopped.
I haven't managed to get my colon under control for a number of reasons, not the least of which is being C dominant.
Try different foods to see if those you are eating are causing the problem. Make beef bone stick and mash potatoes with it. That's what I did. Bananas, coconut milk and that.

Sorry you are still having so many issues Jazi! I would for sure switch it up with your diet.. Sounds like there is a lot of rice in your diet (chex, gf pasta, rice), if you are reacting to that, then you should know pretty quickly if you cut it out. Maybe switch to oatmeal for breakfast, and potatoes instead of rice, with beef/pork/turkey for lunch and dinner instead of chicken. I know it is very painful and frustrating!
Wouldn't that be just great... not being able to have chicken and rice.
How about 1 oz of walnuts for breakfast? That's what I used to eat before the rice chex. I'm afraid to eat oats
For lunch, I can make a turkey burger.
What about my corn chips? If I stop those, I will pass out from starvation,

Joanne,
I'm sorry, because this is surely going to be a difficult issue, but IMO it's very likely that the Prozac is causing your MC symptoms, and neither the diet changes nor Entocort will be able to overcome the problem. It's also possible that you do not even have any food sensitivities (yet), but they will e triggered if you continue to use an SSRI.
SSRIs are tricky. For some people they can help to resolve digestive system motility issues, but for others, their action on serotonin in the gut can trigger MC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

They gave me Lexapro when my symptoms first started (before being diagnosed with CC). They said it would have a calming effect on my GI system, but it made me sooo much worse. My symptoms improved when I missed a few pills because of having tests and a colonoscopy. I realized the SSRI was really causing more problems than I originally had before they gave it to me. I had only taken it less than two months, so I just stopped taking it after that. I don't know how long you've been on the SSRI or how long it will take to ween off.
Well, I'm done with this prozac nonsense! Ijust called my pmd and asked for 10mg so I can start my weening process again.
Ladyathome,I have been on and off prozac since 2006.... I was initially put on it for PMDD and anxiety. Now I feel I need it because of my raging hormones due to perimenopause. I'll just buy a punching bag... one for work and one for home. This is ridiculous. Any natural treatment I have to run by my surgeon who doesn't want me on any hormones due to breast cancer in 2008.

In addition to what Tex said, the growing paleo believer in me thinks you may be eating too many processed foods and starch.
Almond milk contains carageenan and other thickeners that may cause reactions.
Rice Chex contains BHT, a preservative that some may react to.I have rice chex with unsweetened vanilla almond milk every morning.

Lots of starch and sugars. Do you tolerate any cooked veggies or other meats?A banana for a snack, sometimes apple sauce for a snack.
Chkn/rice dish for lunch or GF pasta with chkn
Sweet potato for dinner
I have trouble with corn chips - not sure if it's the possibility of cross contamination with wheat, the use of GMO corn, the oils used, or simply the undigestibility of corn. I only buy non-GMO corn chips now and eat them sparingly. I do better with potato chips.Corn chips for snack
