Hi all,
This group is awesome. Where else can one receive a beautful gift that comes with a card that says, "With lots of love and good wishes from Mathew and all of your adoring women friends, (A.K.A. The Potty People!).
My family and friends didn't know what to say, (most of them just read it and then sat silently, pondering what it could possibly mean) When I told them it was from my internet friends, they just kind of peeked at me out of the corners of their eyes, without significantly changing the puzzled expression on their faces, stll obviously confused. LOL. No one from the hospital staff ever garnered the nerve to ask what it might mean, either, (I'm sure they were afraid to ask). LOL.
Thanks so much for the beautiful flowers and balloons. That certainly did help to cheer up my drab room.
I've read a few posts, but I still have a long way to bo--I'll have to try to catch up later, I still haven't even checked my e-mail.
I got home about 4 p.m. this afternoon, more or less, and I'm tired, sore, and pretty much shot, so I'm not sure how long I'll be able hold on tonight, before I have to crash.
After coming off the IVs, early yesterday, I took one pain pill, and have been doing without, ever since. I hope the pain doesn't become a problem, but so far,it's been pretty much of a non-issue.
I have to go do a few things. I hope that I feel up to coming back later,. We'll see,

I was wondering about whether you had already told your family and friends about US. That's funny.

Whatever it is can wait....unless it's things to pamper yourself. Please don't overdo it - it has been less than 5 days since your surgery. It sounds as if you are making a remarkable recovery. Great that you are home again. There isn't anything better than being in your own home and in your own bed is there? I hope you are not going to race into doing too much too soon. It is going to take a fair bit of time and lots of rest to get on top again. You have been through so much.
It must have given you a bit of a giggle to see the faces of your nurses and family when they saw the card. They must have been wondering just what you have been up to. That should have given you a bit of a charge.

Wayne I just can't believe you are home already, wow. And back here making a post, let alone telling us you have a few things you gotto do!!!
I think you must be made of some strong stuff, I am a real weany when it comes to that stuff.
BUT don't push it, it really doesn't take much to over do it. And nothing much to open up stitches too. I say that because as a teenager, I ended up having to lay on my back for almost two months after a big surgery because I opened up my stitches. I had to live with my mom's friend so she could take care of me, as my mom was sick at the time, and my bandages had to be changed daily as it also got infected. The best part of it was that I didn't have to go to school that whole time. Well I had to do homework, but it wasn't anything like going to school. It did get old though, I just wanted to go out and be able to play, LOL. But that was a really serious problem for me back then. We lived in the boondocks, and as kids we did everything outside, and I was a big tom boy, and always on the go. Its not like today, where kids play video games, and so forth or watch TV shows, not allot to do in bed back then. From what I have read about you, you are a going concern, and so having something like a silly surgery keep you down for too long, is just not even in a question is it??? But your body will remind you in its own way, just listen to it and you will be fine.

Remember, you'll probably wake up feeling pretty good, and overdo it, and they pay for it starting around 4 in the afternoon. So pace yourself.

I wasn't referring to "doing a few things related to work, (though I will admit that a couple of them might have been work-related). If you think that MC sometimes casts a negative shadow on work and/or social plans, I'm here to tell you that the dreaded ostomy bag, can have almost the same effect, (or worse). It seems to be all that it's cracked up to be. Sigh. It's now a part of my life, for at least a while, so I'll get used to it, and learn to accomodate.
For example, rather than to leave the hospital and go home at noon, (right before the meals were served), we decided that we would save time, if I would go ahead and eat, before we left. WRONG!!!!! As they say, what goes in, must come out, and I barely got through eating before I realized that I hadn't saved a bit of time. It takes a long time to properly empty and clean one of those bags, after a large movement, and there's not much you can do but sit and wait for "it" to finish, so that you can "do your duty", afterward. LOL.
Believe me, I'm afraid that it has already begun to retrain me, as far as eating habits are concerned.

It is so GREAT to have you back!!!
I know you will be on cloud 9 when you heal enough to get rid of that drated bag, but for now you need it so be patient with yourself.
Just be glad it's not forever!!!

Like everyone else has already said - please, don't overdo anything; try to take it easy even if you don't want to. Your body needs a lot of rest in order to recover from what you've been through, don't you think?!
Can't you get a bag that you can throw away instead of having to clean it? I agree with Shirley, it's a good thing it is temporary.
