My protocol for LC & CC that seems to be working

Post by Stanz »

I’d like to share my recent journey with MC. It’s been a very busy month and I haven’t had time to come on here to visit or do any more research. I’m so appreciative for the encouragement and support I've gotten here. Because of the generosity of everyone sharing their stories and recommendations for treatment, I chose a path and have avoided using steroids. Hopefully I’ve found my answer, as it appears that I may be on the mend. I’m still awaiting my test results from Enterolab, but previously was negative for celiac via the blood test.

My D started after a traumatic event in mid December ’07 and was unremitting. Often I could not even get through a meal w/o having to go to the bathroom. I had explosive D anytime I ate, and was up several times a night. I had my fair share of “accidents” and was becoming a recluse. My job and life is stressful and stress has always made it worse. In retrospect, it is likely that I have had signs of this since I was 9 and I am now 60. D would always follow some sort of trauma or stress, but until Dec. ’07 it had always been short-lived. This time I had lost 36 pounds and my hair was falling out.

My protocol:

2 rounded Tsp. Glutamine Powder - 3 times a day (Vital Nutrients)
2 PB 8 Pro-Biotic Acidophilus (Nutrition Now)
2 Loperamide Hydrochloride – 2 mg. /3 times a day (Kirkland Brand)
1 Proboulardi 2 times a day (Metagenics)
2 Vitamin D3 (2000 I.U.)
1 Tbsp. Organic Coconut Oil (Aunt Patty’s)

I take the first round of those when I first get up and follow it with this:

Banana smoothie:
1 RIPE Banana
3 Tbsp. Almond butter
1/2 C. Green Juice (Odwalla)

I’ve been gluten free since early August. Have been soy and (mostly) dairy free since I was Dx with both LC and CC in mid October (via colonoscopy/biopsy) and have been on this protocol for about 5 weeks now. I’ll probably stay on it until the first of the year and may add or delete stuff depending on the results from Enterolab. I’m actually feeling pretty good and am hopeful, which is HUGE.

I also did a lot of research on adding Low Dose Naltrexone to this regimen and my Naturopath considered prescribing that as well. I’ve been expecting to have to leave town on short notice for about a month now and will be gone for quite awhile once I leave, so he was hesitant to add it w/o being able to monitor me.

For the past week I have had NO D. I have 1-2 BM’s a day now (used to have probably 12, even though I was eating almost nothing) and they are what I would consider to be pretty normally formed. I’ve gained about 4 pounds in the last month, am actually beginning to have an appetite again and not as afraid to eat or go out.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and that the new year will be a good one for all of us.

Sounds good. I am very happy for you. GF is the way to be.

I am going the no meds route as well.

Keep up the good work. I hope there are no surprises from EL. It took a month or more for my soy intolerance to show up after having great success going GF......Because of the PP, I pretty much had that figured out before ordering the additional EL tests.

Thank you, Joan, a month ago I couldn't imagine that I would feel so much better now. It has been surprisingly easy for me to avoid gluten. I got a tiny bit of it at Thanksgiving dinner and felt it immediately.

I sent in my test kit about 2 1/2 wks ago so should have results soon!

Stanz,

I'm glad you've found a routine that is working for you. Let us know the results of your Enterolab test.

It's great to see such encouraging news.

Now that you've tasted success, it should be easier to fine tune your diet, as you continue to improve.

Good luck, and I hope you continue to see steady progress. And thanks for the update.

It still amazes me every single day that the PP know the answer(s) and the Mayo Clinic, the Cleveland Clinic, and all the other great and wonderful medical centers don't.

Dear Stanz

Thanks for sharing. I note you take coconut oil. Two days ago I decided to drink sweet coconut water straight from the nut.... it tasted delicious and it seems I had no ill effects.

All best and wishing you continued improvement, Ant

Tex, Joan & Ant,

Thank you for caring. Tex, you are an inspiration for humanity, I wish there were many clones of you. Joan, I wish I could say it is any kind of surprise that western med is so lacking, but this has been my experience for the last 15 years. My niece is interviewed in this link: http://www2.tbo.com/video/2009/nov/03/u ... 09/video-/
and I think it is inspirational that WM docs are now realizing that book smarts aren't all the future docs need to know. Hopefully the doctors in our future will have a better education because of this man.

Ant, eating congealed coconut oil was a bit off-putting at first, but it really tastes fine if you can get past the oily tongue, I am used to it now, view it as a good thing and after 2 solid years of being sick every day this is nothing.

I work as a caterer in the film industry so I am constantly being alerted by my clients to the food needs of the people I will be feeding. Long ago I started researching recipes for gluten-free, lactose, peanut allergy, veggie, vegan, etc. and maybe this has made it easier for me as I have already done the research as a part of my job and have a huge list of recipes for tasty treats and have shared them with "talent" that have been very appreciative. Now that I have become one of the "problem" people, I completely understand where they are and so maybe it has been easier for me to forgive my own "failing" as I am now one of the problem people myself. It's not like we have hearts that are failing as pathetic as we might feel at times.

Linda,

I've just recently been writing about my protocol in this thread http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewt ... ht=#139147

In spite of a very stressful year, being in the midst of a divorce, moving and taking a huge financial hit in time lost from work and work being slow (I'm self employed), I'm actually doing quite well and am slowly gaining weight. Still have the occasional stress related flares, but all my arthritis, skin symptoms and UTI's are gone and have been for 3 years now. Just had a complete physical and all my blood work is perfect.
