So much pain!

Post by fatbuster205 »

Having been doing really well for so long, I am in complete agony today - usual pain right hand side and about a third of the way across the transverse. I have gone back up to 9mg budesonide today and just taken tramadol. I have been on the loo 10 times - starting at BSC 4 then quickly to 6. I actually feel like crying  and this is the worst I have felt since probably last June. Clearly something has triggered me so I am sticking to chicken soup for now but I feel so disappointed and not just a little bit sorry for myself! Luckily today is a public holiday so I am not at work and am resorting to my sofa! Sorry for such a moan but I am feeling really bad!
Anne

Hi Anne,

I'm sorry this is happening. Sometimes the disappointment and frustration is harder to accept than the symptoms themselves.

I'm not sure which foods besides gluten (if any) you're avoiding, but if you're not avoiding dairy and/or soy, they are the next most likely suspects. Of course, there is always the possibility that you might have eaten something that was cross-contaminated.

I hope you'll feel much better by tomorrow.

Thanks Guys! And yes the frustration and disappointment is hard to accept! At least the Tramadol has kicked in a bit and reduced the pain but I still feel pretty rubbish!

So sorry Anne! Maybe you just ate something that was rotten or carrying a bacteria. Food poisoning can be awful- especially for us. Hope you feel better very soon!

Thanks Leah!
Still a lot of pain and I am feeling pretty sorry for myself! You might be right - food poisoning? I don't know! At least today I wasn't at work so was able to sleep this afternoon. I just hope things have calmed down by tomorrow. I see my GP on Thursday for a routine check up and I am going to ask for tests for food intolerances because I do not want a repeat of last year.
I seem to recall that you warned me that the steroids might be masking further food intolerances - I guess you are right (which is a bummer!!) but I need to know!!
Anyway, thank you for your kind words! Hopefully I can get back on track!

Just remember that Enterolab is the only lab that does this type of testing. Anything your doctor suggests will most likely be "allergy" tests which won't help you much. Allergy tests IgE antibodies, but what you need to test are the IgA antibodies.
Good luck :)

Hi Anne,

I've been thinking about you and wondered if you would go back on the 9 mg. dose of Entocort. You should rebound fairly quickly with the full dosage and should be able to reduce pretty quickly, too. Once you get to two pills a day, I would recommend that you slowly taper the dosage and use that time to determine your additional intolerance.

There is a point when you take Entocort where you're not flaring, but you're having symptoms occasionally. That's the time when you will see how you respond to changes in your diet. It can take time after reducing to get to that point. Sometimes it takes a week or two, sometimes it takes longer.

I hope the increase in Entocort works quickly for you and you'll be able to taper soon thereafter.

Hi Anne,
So sorry that you are having this flare. I think you're right about the diasppointment of going backwards. I had a little episode a couple of weeks ago and know that it was caused from stress. I was OK the next day. Today I am also a little off, just not feeling quite myself.

My daughter called last night and she has a stomach bug whcih has the same symtoms. I wonder if sometimes that is just what we are having - a bug. My other daughter and granddaughter were so sick a couple of weeks ago with it. They both lost about 5 lbs in two days. They do not have colitis.

I hope you get back on your feet soon.

Thanks Guys, and yes Gloria, I am back on 9mg. Hopefully a couple of weeks will settle things down and then I will go down to 6mg. It seemed to start to get iffy when I went down to 3mg! My consultant did warn me that this might happen! The pain has eased today to just twinges but no BM - I guess I emptied myself out yesterday! Have made 2.5 litres of chicken, carrot and onion soup - guess what I am living on for the next few days. I also had some rice tonight so I am being very careful. I hope I have stopped this flare in its tracks but I know I am going to have to go down the trial and error route!

Anyway thank you all for being there and apologies for being a wuss!! And I am feeling a bit better!

Hi Anne. When I read your last post about things going down hill at 3 mg. , the first thing i thought was "then you are reacting to another food. I hate to be the one to bring this up, but I have a feeling that you may have to start taking other foods out. When I got down to 3 mg. a day, was when I realized I was reacting to soy. If this is the case, you will never reach remission and be able to get off the drugs.

Hi Leah,
Unfortunately I have to concede you are most likely right! I am going to discuss with my GP tomorrow going about an elimination diet! I can't say I am thrilled at the prospect but I do not want a repeat performance of Monday! 9mg budesonide has calmed things down at least!

Don't be surprised if your GP doesn't think food has anything to do with it. most GPs are clueless about the elimination diet. if you need help with it, we are all here :)
