IBS Is Looking More And More Like Early Stages Of An IBD

Post by tex »

Researchers recently made the following startling (to them) discovery:
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) patients were more than four times as likely to develop osteoporosis and related fractures as individuals without the condition, a recently published study found.
Well well, let's see now — what other diseases tend to cause osteoporosis? . . . Oh yeah, celiac disease and MC, IOW, diseases associated with gluten sensitivity. Big fat surprise.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I have to laugh.... When I first saw the headline to this link I thought I saw "IRS looking more and more like the early stages of an IBD". I've got to shut off the news!

I suppose that the IRS could be stressful enough to trigger someone's MC! We could start a rumor maybe?

It never ceases to amaze me when a piece of info that most people have known for years makes its way into news. IBS may be the early stages of IBD. I wonder if the researcher who discovered this knows that cigarettes cause cancer or that there is an epidemic of childhood obesity in the U.S.?
