Thanksgiving meal plans?

Post by m »

All-I'm always interested in hearing about other's meal plans for holidays. I'm having a small turkey breast from Whole Foods, mashed potatoes made with chicken broth not milk (thinking about adding some roasted garlic??), meat dressing made with GF bread and lots of sage, green beans with onions and almonds, meatballs dipped in Thai Kitchen dipping sauce, acorn squash with brown sugar and pecans, baked apples with cinnamon, walnuts and raisins.
What are you having?

Yum! I'm making turkey...bought an 18 pounder today, dressing, gravy, rot kraut (sweet and sour red cabbage, if I got the German spelling correct....family recipe), mashed spuds, cranberry relish, cranberry jello salad, crecent rolls, corn meal madeleines, the neighbors are bringing green beans and yams...my neice is making pumpkin pie. So far, I am surviving on 2 Entocort/wk. This may be the test, ha ha.

M,
I'm coming to your house! Ha!
No, we're having Thanksgiving at my sister's, and she's got the same food issues. She's been gone this week, but when she returns, we've got to do some quick thinking.
Her mil and mil's sister will be the only guests that I know of, and I think that the mil volunteered to make a few things. Not sure how much my sister has been able to teach her though. Maybe she'll fix something separate for the non-gf floks, and we'll just do a few simpler things for us.
My job is basically just to get Mom dressed, and tend to her. When I have to cook and tend to her as well, it's a nightmare, so I've been excused from that. Still, will want to be able to do something that we can do ahead of time, but I'm sort of waiting on my sis to decide all that.

Later, after Thursday, I'll probably do a little turkey dinner thing just for Mom and I, with leftovers, of course. Will just use turkey parts, and make the gravy out of the juice.

Yours, Luce

Luce,
When my mom was alive, I got excused from the cooking too. I excused MYSELF. I told my family that I just could not do it all any more and they understood. Now I have to cook all my own again because of the intolerance issues.
