medications...good and bad

Post by tpsprings »

I have a question about meds that might be helpful and harmful to my M. colitis. I recently started Plaquenil, which was traditionally an anti-malarial drug but now used for people with lupus and other similar issues. It is tearing my stomach apart! Has anyone had the same reaction to this medication???

I also read on this site that taking an antihistamine could help with food allergies and inflammation almost as well as Budosiodine. What brand works the best?

Needless to say, I am back on a strict gluten free diet and slowly eliminating harmful foods once again. I'm so bummed about this set back, but so glad that I am not alone. If it were up to the doctors at this point, I would be stuck at home, sick and tired. so thanks!!!

We all respond differently to different versions of drugs, and with antihistamines we have to try them, to see if they work for us. Personally, for me, Claritin doesn't seem to do much, even for common allergies, but others swear by it. However, most members who choose it use the Claritin RediTabs, because the regular version contains lactose (if my memory is accurate).

I use Allegra for seasonal allergies, but I've never taken an antibiotic to control MC symptoms. Allergists claim that Zyrtec is the strongest antihistamine, but I have never tried it, and I have no idea if anyone else has used it for controlling their MC symptoms.

I've never used Plaquenil, so I can't offer any experiences there, but several other members have use it recently, so hopefully they will notice your post and respond.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
