Licorice

Post by Lesley »

The name of my new puppy! I got her on Mother's Day. She is adorable! She is a cross between a dachshund and a terrier, weighs 5.8 lbs. has a black (shedding) coat, and shiny black eyes. Her name is Licorice.

Today I am having a horrible attack. First time for a long time I didn't make t to the toilet, and have to wash my knickers. My esophagitis is in full on attack.

Licorice comes to sit on my lap and gives me licky kisses on my nose. Makes me feel MUCH better.

It's 2 years (and maybe more because I had all sorts of symptoms for a long time before) since this started. I don't seem to be healing.

Maybe having Licorice will help.

She sounds really cute Lesley. I love my dogs. I'm so sorry you're suffering. I know research has shown that having animals helps decrease stress and blood pressure, etc., so maybe Licorice will help! I hope you feel better soon and get to the root of the problem!

Hi Leslie,

I read this post right after posting on Sheila's thread where it sounded like you were doing quite well. It's amazing how quickly things can turn around with this disease. It always seems like the minute I allow myself to feel that I'm on top of things - WHAM - the rug is once again pulled from under my feet.

It's funny you named your little dog Licorice - I used to love licorice and ate it often before my gluten free days. Is it possible to find gluten free licorice? Anyhow, I'm so glad you have a little companion by your side now, and am sending lots of healing thoughts your way.

Love,
Kari

Lesley, I'm so happy you got licorice. I bet he will help you feel better and keep your stress at bay. I know I always feel myself relax when I pet my two little dogs.

What a great name for the puppy and so sorry you are having a bout now. It does seem like it never ends and Kari is correct, just when you can smile the rug is ripped out from under.

Hope things get better and I am sure Licorice will give you great support.

Love, Maggie

Thank you all!
Licorice says woof back to all the dogs in this thread.

Kari, I have not been OK at all unfortunately. A lot of the time I have not said anything, but it seems to be 1 step forward, and 3/4 - 1 1/2 back. I don't seem to be able to pinpoint what is causing what reaction because of the C dominance. I am having a lot of pain, but I do NOT know what is causing it. )-;

Firefox keeps crashing and then I can't find my way back to a thread where I started to answer. Can you point me towards Sheila's thread please?

Lesley,

Here's a link to the thread that I believe you're referring to:

Hi Lesley,

I'm glad you got Licorice. I adopted a dog early last June because I knew it would make me get off my rear and get out and walk, plus my daughter was working in her college town and my husband was helping his brother on his farm so I was going to have weeks alone. So Ziggy became a member of our family and having him around has been a very good thing. I am teaching him to sit and stay and he's doing fairly well. He was 3-4 years old and was at the Humane Society so we don't know much about his history. He had to overcome some fears and we had to teach him to play and chew on chewbones instead of our socks and underwear. He didn't know how to walk on a leash, play with toys or even ride in the car (seriously what dog doesn't know how to ride?). Well now he's a big fan of walking, riding and playing. And it's been very good for me to have someone fun to concentrate on rather than how crappy I can feel.
It was after I got Ziggy, stopped the steroids and started acupuncture that I REALLY turned the corner last summer. But I'm sure having a shift in my attitude and having some fun with Zig helped to propel me forward.

Post a picture if you can. I'd love to see Licorice.

Licorice gets carsick! What a bummer! She's only 9 months old. I am hoping she will grow out of it.

I am getting the trainer who saved Lenny and Adam when things were dire with Lenny, and it was touch and go whether Adam could keep him. I need help to make her as obedient as possible. She is basically a good, sweet little dog but she is SO stubborn. She knows who gives her love, but she needs to know who is boss. I have just about managed to stop her growling and barking when someone comes in, but I cannot get her to sit.

I go out with her 3-4 times a day. She is young and very playful, and needs far more exercise than I can give her. I will have to find a kid to play with her and help her get rid of some of that energy.
And I have to get her to let me clean her teeth! Her breath absolutely stinks!

I don't know how to post pics here. There are some on FB.

Pics of Ziggy?
