Holistic Doctors?

Post by Rhyes »

I have found a local Holistic Doctor and have been researching her website. Does anyone have experience with these kind of doctors? Her website says that she does food sensitivity tests. I know that many of you have had that done through Enterolab. Does anyone think it would be a good idea for me to have one done through her? She is a friend of the family, so it hopefully won't be too expensive, like Enterolab.
Also, I know that I should get Entocort, however, I have lots of Prednisone from previous scripts. Does anyone think I should just try a 7 day taper course of it to see if it helps. I've heard that a short course like that won't cause any side effects. I ask this because I have it on hand and could start it tomorrow. I'm at the point now where whenever I eat, no matter what it is, I have anywhere from 1 to 5 "episodes" and lots of watery D with undigested food. My belly is almos always in a constant "rumble". What's odd, is late afternoons my belly seems to be better, almost normal feeling. After dinner I get the "rumble", but usually don't have any episodes.

Ryes,

If your belly is almost constantly loudly rumbling, then there is probably something in your regular diet that is causing you to react. You need to figure out what it is, and avoid it. This is just my opinion, but the only lab tests for food sensitivities that I would spend any of my hard-earned money on, are those offered by EnteroLab, because all other food-sensitivity tests are so unreliable as to be mostly worthless for the kind of food sensitivities that we have.

About once in a blue moon a member will come along who is unable to achieve remission after a long time of carefully following an exclusion diet, and they are able to "jolt" their system into remission by using a short prednisione treatment such as you describe. In order for it to be successful, though, you would have to have been faithfully following a careful diet for many months (or years). If not, your symptoms will relapse soon after the drug is discontinued.

Read the thread at the following link for details. This case study isn't exactly a match for yours, because Bob used Entocort to take up the slack, after the pred treatment. In my opinion, the pred treatment was probably unnecessary, because the Entocort would have established remission without the pred (but I'm only guessing, of course). Incidentally, many/most of us experience the same pattern that you describe about doing better in the late afternoons. That's a typical MC pattern.

Bobs Prednisone -> Entocort
