Well, having a flare up and reading and researching MC over the past couple days does not make for a very entertaining Memorial Day holiday but as I always say whenever most difficult situations pop up, "You've been dealt a bad card, but you have many more left, and only a fool wouldn't play out his hand." So, here goes.
I was diagnosed in 2011, prescribed 0.375 grams of Apriso and that seemed to do the trick, until this month. Experienced pain in my left side two weeks ago with an upset stomach and then the WD reared itself over the next couple of days and I haven't been able to get rid of it with the exception of soft stools on occasion. Currently I'm not experiencing bloating or gas, and have very little cramping. Having to make a run to the potty about 5-6 times a day, depending on what I eat. I'm about 2/3 through Tex's book and have spent hours researching on this board. So, here's my plan, most of which I implemented on Friday:
1. Eliminate all gluten, dairy and soy.
2. Try the 8 tabs of Pepto a day.
3. Take a Vitamin D supplement as well as an L-Glutamine
4. Eliminate Alleve (NSAIDs)
After reading about the mast cell/histamine subject, I'm wondering if I have this problem. I have a problem (that is no bother, really, just somewhat annoying) of incessantly developing canker sores in my mouth, despite practicing excellent dental hygiene over the years. I could never figure out why and after reading so much about mast cells I'm wondering if my problem is due to histamines. I also have a small sore on my scalp that again, is no bother, but won't seem to go away. As such, I've started taking 10 mg of the H1 receptor, Cetirizine.
Thank you all for the informatioin you've provided on this board. It has been extremely helpful and encouraging, and I'd be very interested in hearing any feedback on my strategy.

Mapping Out A Strategy
Diagnosed with MC in June of 2011. Prescribed 0.375 grams of Apriso. Experienced remission within 3 weeks while still eating whatever I wanted. Flare up in May of 2013. Digesting all the information on this board and developing a food strategy.
Hi Jack,
It appears to me that you have a good plan. You can always fine-tune it as you go, if the need arises.
I believe that you're reading the canker sores, and scalp issue correctly. Those symptoms typically are associated with histamine issues. If the antihistamine doesn't seem to help, you may need to experiment with a different brand. If it helps but not enough, you may have to increase the dosage, or add another type. Or, you may need to minimize foods in your diet that have a high histamine content.
You may find that the antihistamine helps to reduce your GI symptoms, also.
Good luck. You seem to be off to a good start with your treatment plan.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
