Thyroid Ultrasound
Just picked up the report from my GP. The news could have been better if they had labeled these nodules as cystic. But no, they are solid. Blood labs should be ready by Monday. Hopefully they will tell me something. I would think the next step will be either a fine needle aspiration and/or the radioactive iodine uptake test.
Final report on US.
On the current exam, right lobe of the thyroid gland extends 3.9 cm in Length x 1.2 x 1.6 cm in cross section.
Left lobe is 3.3 x 0.9'x 1.1 cm
For the right lobe of the thyroid gland, there are hyperechoic nodules seen, one along the superior pole of the right gland measuring 14 x 5.2 x 9 mm in size, another involving the lower pole of the right lobe posteriorly and medially measuring 7.1 x 5.1 in cross section and extending 8.5 mm in length, and additionally smaller nodule seen near the mid gland at 5.6 x 3.7 mm in cross section. No focal abnormality to the left or isthmus is seen.
Still waiting on the blood labs but they should be in by Monday. Any thoughts? These are solid nodules. There was no mention made of the vascularity of these nodules but they were to red on Doppler.
I have an appointment with a new endo on July 11th and will have all results with me. I was also told by my GP that my TSH is still over 12 so he upped my script of Tirosint to 75mcg.
I'm finding that this new hypoallergenic T4 medicine combined with daily dicyclomine helps with the MC, but certainly isn't a cure all. I still have mornings with D, but it isn't quite as bad as what it was.

Linda

Hi Linda,
As I'm sure you're aware, more than 90 % of all solid nodules are benign, so at least the odds are high that malignancy won't be a problem.
That's a big plus that the Tirosint seems to be helping to reduce your MC symptoms, also.
Thanks for the update.

I'm sure the next step is a FNA. Then probably an uptake test. Either way, in the end this thyroid is going to need to be removed. I have AntiTPO <4200. My periodontist has put all further surgeries on hold until they 'kill' the thyroid. I'm in agreement as the swings between hypo to hyper can be unbearable at times. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me the significance of my PTH numbers. They came back at 86 with the range between 10-75. Yet I have normal calcium numbers. I've been searching for any significance but have not found much information online.

In general, elevated PTH and normal to low calcium level is associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism. Here's a reference:

Secondary hyperparathyroidism can be associated with kidney function issues, but IMO, your results are probably being affected by your MC.

Thanks For the link Tex, when I look at the chart there really isn't any category I fit into as I didn't see high PTH with normal calcium. Or should I say it may be there but my dysfunctional brain can't process what I am seeing. Either way, I don't have the actual lab report yet, I will pick it up on Tuesday. There were many things that were checked and the PTH is the only one I know the actual numbers for. I will be meeting a new endo in July and will consult as to where we go from there. Until then it's my goal not to let it mentally bother me. I'm not working now so plan to concentrate on updating some things in our house. Seems like when I find myself in limbo (medically, employment, whatever), my therapy is to pick up a paintbrush and redecorate something. I see new paint on the walls of my sons bedroom in the near future!

Linda,
You're right, it's not in the chart, but if you look at the 4th paragraph below the chart, it contains the information that I posted. And the last sentence of that paragraph says:
I like your therapy plan. So many people just sit around and worry when they don't have all the facts, and that added stress certainly doesn't help anything, because we always tend to assume the worst, when we don't have solid facts to work with.
Happy redecorating.

Apparently that's an uncommon combination, since there was no chart listing for it. Maybe the full lab report will help to clarify things. In secondary hyperparathyroidism, people will generally have high PTH levels and low or normal calcium levels.

Not sure if these images will show up as I have never tried to upload photos, but if they show up, this is some of what I've done with my time to take my mind off of all the medical crap that has happened over the past couple of years. I'm very pleased with how these turned out as I have the equivalent of a brown thumb when it comes to decorating. Martha Stewart I am not.

Went to see the new Endo yesterday. I made sure to have all of my labs and test results with me. I actually spent more time with his PA than him however it was still an interesting visit. He has diagnosed me with hyperparathyroidism along with Hashi's. we are scheduling a FNA and doing some more blood tests for the parathyroid. I was puzzled as my vit D is over the normal range and asked him about it as I wondered if this was primary or secondary. he said he is leaning more towards primary and said my GP didn't test the correct D. so he is checking my D 25. But, what is interesting is the information I found out is it is almost always caused by a tumor on one or more of your parathyroid glands and once they remove the tumor you are considered cured!!!! My symptoms are almost matched to a 'T'! The Bone loss in my mouth, the deep bone pain. Is there anyone else here that has this condition? For anyone interested, this is a very informative website regarding the parathyroid.

That should be the best of all possible outcomes, so things are definitely looking up.Linda wrote:But, what is interesting is the information I found out is it is almost always caused by a tumor on one or more of your parathyroid glands and once they remove the tumor you are considered cured!!!!
I don't recall anyone else ever posting about having that particular problem, but maybe my memory is just unreliable.
Thanks for the update. That news should make your weekend much more relaxing.

HI Linda,
your remodel looks very nice. My house has high ceilings too and that leaves me with a lot of wall space that I'm never sure what to do with. It's mostly blank at this point.
My thought is that with MC I think we tend to stay home more so we may as well get it looking like we want it to.
Your time was well spent and your results are very nice.

Thanks Carol,
I know what you mean about the blank walls. The ceiling in my family room is 20 feet tall and flat so I have ALOT of empty walls. I'm not sure what else I'm going to put up yet, then again, I'm thinking we might sell this place within the next couple of years so at least for now they're staying the way they are. I don't know when or even if I will be going back to work and being my kids are grown, although still living at home for the moment , but I think when the first one moves out is when we will downsize. My daughter just finished up her junior year in college and in a couple of weeks will be beginning an internship with Price, Waterhouse, Coopers. It is only a summer internship, however at the end of it the company typically give job offers to about 90% of those students so if everything goes right, she will start her senior year knowing she already has a job.
As for my health, I have now been diagnosed with three separate serious health issues and any one of those three in itself can be life altering. Having MC, Hashimoto's and Hyperparathyroidism has certainly been a triple whammy! At least I'm comfortable with my surroundings. Sometimes it gets really messy, but I'm just going with it for now and not letting that bother me. I never know from day to day what problems or symptoms I will experience so in being kind to myself I'm learning to keep my obsessive/compulsive behavior at bay. My cup is half full!
