Bad Days

Post by Liz »

Having a bit of a whinge today. Flare up started on Saturday. Had a feeling that things were about to erupt & that they did while I was at a meeting an hours drive from home. Had to have a couple of emergency stops on the way home & things have not improved today (Monday) Was supposed to attend a special Bowls day for our District President today but had to opt out. Shame because these days are really fun, happy days & everyone has a good time.

Hoping things have settled down by tomorrow. We are going up the coast to visit our friend who has cancer and is in a pretty bad way. In his lungs & now his hip as well. Graham is Robert's oldest friend. They lived across the road from each other & started Kindy at 2 years old together so you can imagine how upset Robert is. Friends for about 66 years. Graham is having both Chemo & radiotheraphy & he is understandably very down at the moment so I hope we can make it.

Love

Liz,

I'm very sorry to hear of your flare, and I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it will end soon.

I certainly hope that you and Robert are able to successfully make the trip, and enjoy your visit with Graham, tomorow. Such a lifelong friendship is precious, almost beyond comprehension.

Love,
Wayne

Hello again

This is perhaps the worst flare that I have had for some time. Whole body is involved, not just bowel. Sore & achey all over, feel like a walking bruise. Don't really know what set it off so bad. Maybe I had been pushing things a bit too much. Don't see it being a diet problem as I have been fairly careful on that.

The Paleo did not seem to suit me so I have gone back to just eating the things that don't upset me & avoiding the things that do. Green salads seem to be a real problem as are beans, peas etc. Don't like spinach or swiss chard very much & I have high cholesterol so that content created a problem for me. By the way, what are collard greens? We don't have anything by that name here but it may be another name for something we do have. Anyway, I gave it a go. You have to try things once I suppose.

Hi Liz,

Sorry to hear that. I hope you haven't picked up a virus.

Collards are usually boiled, and are supposedly very healthy, with cancer prevention qualities. They are similiar to Kale, and like Kale, are members of the Brassica family. Here are a couple of sites, with information:

http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tnam ... e&dbid=138

http://www.producepete.com/shows/collardgreens.html

I hope you can break out of that rut soon.

Love,
Wayne

Hi Liz,

Sorry you missed your fun bowls day. Hope you are feeling better. Also hope you were able to visit Robert's friend and that he is tolerating his treatments.

Speaking of kale, my friend who had colon cancer now eats kale every day. She cooks it with onions and thinks it's delicious. I don't know if I think it's delicious, but it's tolerable. My favorite remedy for flares is cream of rice cereal. Do you have that?

Good luck.

Hi People

Thanks for the info on the greens. Looking at it I would say that they would probably have the same effect as other types of green stuff like cabbage. Feeling a little better this morning, had a better night. Going to dose up so that I can go up to see Graham today. Only problem with that is that when the medication wears off it is usually worse. The dam breaks & the flood starts again in earnest. In any case I really want to go.

Had a visit from one of my bowling friends last night. The District President had a small gift for each of the people who had assisted her during the year & my friend delivered mine to me. A nice surprise.

Love

Liz

Hi Liz,

I do hope you are feeling better and greens can really kick me in the gut too. They are my favorite, especially chard & collards but eat them very sparingly now.

Fell better and have a great day.

Love, Maggie
