why did my arsenic level increase
Hi, My latest hair analysis test showed that my arsenic level increased. My main concern about chronic arsenic exposure is that causes hypomethylation of DNA. I will save the discussion about hypomethylation for another time as it is very long. Since, I live in New England there are areas that have high concentrations in the rock. I have a deep water well and live next to an area shown on a geologic map to have high levels. The only way to determine was to have a comprehensive water test that included tests for radon and uranium. To my surprise the aresenic level in the water was 0.01. So, where is the arsenic coming from. Since, I have been g-f, I have been eating alot of brown rice and brown rice pasta made with brown rice, water and rice bran. I noticed a difference in my arsenic hair test results after adding rice bran to my baked breads and desserts. Unfortunately rice bran has the highest arsenic levels. I do not like changing back to white rice because of its glycemic index. I know there are other pastas like quinoa. poatato and corn. I have looked up buying a good arsenic testing kit for testing foods to check the rice products. In the water test results there is another concern that I will post a new topic about it. Jon
Yikes, that's scary. I read about wells in Connecticut having high arsenic levels lately. Lots of very sick people with unexplained symptoms until they tested their wells. I limit my brown rice intake now. In fact I probablY eat rice only once or twice a week, although I do eat GF breads made with rice flour.
How much do you pay for hair testing? Is it mail away or through an alternative doc? I've been curious about it, wondering if heavy metals are contributing to my rash situation. Then again, I know I'm allergic to some metals, so high concentrations aren't needed to cause trouble. Still curious though.

Hi, The lab that does my hair analysis is "Trace Elements Inc.". On the site you can find online there is reasearch and newletters written by Dr. Watts. I have read his newletters and trace elements papers. It is amazing how the imbalances in our trace elements effect our biochemistry. One rule is that your hair cannot be bleached and only hair from the back of the head can be used. Another is the your PCP has to sign the a form and he will recieve the doctors report. Some doctors will say that they have no knowledge of trace elements and when I am told that I offer to buy them the book that Dr.Watts wrote. If you call Trace Elements they will assist you in finding a representative that offers their tests. The costs range between $90-175, some reps. charge a different fees for their service. The number is 1-800-824-2314. They are based in Addison, Texas. After, I get my report I buy the supplements from them because I have found all but one are g-f, dairy, and soy free. The only one is their Digest-Zyme that is not g-f because it contains malt. The hair tests test the following nutritional elements, Ca. calcuim, Mg. magesium, Na. Sodium, K. potassium, Cu. copper, Zn. zinc, P. phosphous, Fe. iron, Mn. maganese, Cr. Chromium, Se. Selenium, B. boron, Co. cobalt, Mo. molydeum, S. sulfur. Toxic elements U. uranium, As. arsenic, Hg. mercury, Cd. cadium, Pb. lead, Al. aluminum. There is also a list of additional elements. The most important ones I have found are the significant ratios Ca/P, Na/K, Ca/K, Zn/Cu, Na/Mg, Ca/Mg, Fe/Cu. Other toxic ratios Ca/Pb, Fe/Pb, Fe/Hg, Se/Hg, Zn/Cd, Zn/Hg, S/Hg, S/Cd, S/Pb. There is also a list of additional ratios.
Hi Zizzle, There are many people that live in the northeast that have chronic diseases and Conn. is high on that list. Lyme disease started in Conn. and is spreading outside of the northeast. Many doctors do not want to test for lyme disease. It been found that it is not only the deer ticks that carries the lyme disease. If you research how lyme disease started you we be surprised. I found a map the shows the arsenic hot spots for parts of Mass. N.H, Me. and Vt. I do not remember if Conn was included. The site is "Arsenic Concentrations in Private Bedrock Wells in Southeastern New Hampshire". If Conn. is not included ask the same question online " Arsenic Concentrations in Private Bedrock Wells in Conn." To clarify my arsenic results is .014 and still in the low range. The med range is .020 to .040 and high is above that number. This tests the hair but it does not take into account for the other outlets for chelating out the arsenic. My main conceren is the hypomethlyation of DNA cause by chronic exposure. Jon
