It's been 2 weeks on Entocort-an update

Post by suzieq »

Hi all,

I have been back on Entocort for a full two weeks now, 9 mg a day. The head pains I had been experiencing at first have gone away but I'm still have some dizziness and have been nervous or jumpy since starting it. I guess it did it's job too well, now I'm really constipated and having pains and all the things that go with that.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to go to 6 mg. a day. My question is do I alternate 6 mg. tomorrow and back to 9 mg. on Sunday, etc? I meant to call the Dr. today but got sidetracked.

I have been following the gluten, dairy, soy and egg free to the letter. I am also staying away from the FODMAPS and trying to stay away from nightshades, that's a little hard, I have been eating potatoes more than usual.

Today my husband and I met my kids in Hoboken, NJ (right on the Hudson River) for lunch. I hadn't seen them in a few months. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich but without the roll. The waitress asked me what allergies I had and she saw to it that the cheese came off the chicken, however, left the french fries. I wasn't thinking and ate one and my son (he is a sous chef in NYC) said immediately "Mom, you can't have those fries, they are most likely contaminated". The rest were left on the plate. My son told me that I wouldn't be able to eat at the restaurant he works at, there was maybe 1 or 2 items on the menu he thought would be safe for me, one had lentils and I know I can't eat them. It was good to see my kids even if meant getting soaked by the heavy rain downpours we are having today from Andrea, it wasn't the best day to go but they were both off from work. We took the train down to Hoboken and barely got out before the train delays started because of flooding. Hoboken always floods. It was good to get home.

I was reading a few posts in the last couple of days that mentioned symptoms starting around the time of allergy season. I know that mine did this year and I recall the same time frame for a few episodes of D before I was diagnosed. Should I try taking an allergy pill? I have to read up on mast cells. I have Tex's book and it is right by the potty for me too read!!!!!

Thanks again,

Susanne

Hi Susanne. When I was taking Entocort, I went straight from 9 mg. to 6. The alternating and very slow titrate is more important when you are at the lower dose.Listen to your body and adjust your dose as needed. You shouldn't have C on this drug ( unless it's how you MC usually acts without drugs).

My symptoms have also deteriorated and I am now taking the whole histamine thing seriously. I am staying away from foods high in histamines and I have ordered HISTAME to take for those times I do eat something high in them. Since my allergies have been worse, so are my MC reactions. I already take Clairitin, but I think I have built up a resistence. I should switch to Allegra and see if that helps.

Good luck

Hi Leah,

My MC is D not C. I think that I had this problem the last time I took Entocort. I started 6 mg this morning and will continue with 6 mg, hopefully the C will go away.

I'm going to try taking an allergy pill. I took Claritan under Dr. orders years ago and had a very rare reaction, I thought and still think to this day that the Dr. had me taking too much and that is why I got so sick when taking it. We have allergy medication in the house and I will take that, I don't know what brand it is. I saved the histamine list to my computer and will use it as a reference. Where did you order HISTAME from?

I hope that you get your symptoms under control and are feeling better soon.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.

Enjoy the weekend,
Susanne

On line. Lucky Vitamine sells it, but I actually ordered the Swanson brand of DAO. Seeking health also has a DAO called Histamine Block and you can get that on Amazon.
