Glutened...

Post by Lesley »

On Sunday I got some sugared peanuts as a treat when I was out with Adam. For once I didn't read the ingredient list. I ate quite a lot of them on my way home, and a few more the next day. I spilled them, and while picking them up I saw the ingredients on the bag. FLOUR!!!
I didn't feel anything except tiredness until yesterday. Pain hit. Sort of in my chest area, under my sternum, in my middle back, moving around sort of cramps in the medial area under my ribs. And discomfort in the esophagus. Not exactly GERD, but unease. Headache coming and going. I have had this before. Once I thought I was having a heart attack. I took an aspirin and called 911. No heart attack.
Such exhaustion! Everything is too hard.

I think this is my reaction to gluten. Reminds me to ALWAYS read the small print!

Hi Lesley,
Sorry you had such a bad day, Monday. My heart goes out to you. I hate those gluten headaches. I was worried I would get sick on my vacation this year so I took one Entocort pill a day and survived the two weeks. I'm off the pills now and had no side effects from them at all. To be on a plane, bus or train sick like you describe would be horrible. At least being home you can rest in your own bed. Hope you are feeling better today and have more energy.

I think it took 48 hours for the Sunday dose to set off. Now I am dealing with the Monday dose. Hopefully it will pass soon.

They were delicious, but no where near good enough to suffer like this.
Worst thing is I can make them without flour. I have been very lax at making stuff lately. Too tired. I'd rather go downstairs with Licorice and let her roll in the grass if I feel too bad to walk.

Thanks Cory.

I wouldn't have expected to see flour in sugared peanuts, either. It just shows that we can't assume anything.

I hope you feel better soon.

So sorry to hear about the gluten Lesley. Probably added it to keep the peanuts from sticking together. Wish they would stop using gluten in so many things. Label reading can be a real pain but for us it is necessary.

Love, Maggie
