Giadiasis
Hi, I found this interesting article researching water supplies. " Symptoms of Giardia infection-Giardiasis " www.giardiasis.org/ymptons:aspx. The following information is taking from this article. "The primary symptons of giardiasis such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and bloating overlap with many other gastrointestinal disorders. The following is a differential diagnosis for giardiasis: Irritable Bowel Syndrone, Inflammatory Bowel Disease [Chron's and Microscopic Colitis], Gallbladder or Pancreatic Disease. Giadiasis generally has a longer incubation period than most other intestional infections. Patients with high fever an blood and mucus in the stool are move likely to have an invasive bacteria infection like Shigella, Campylobactor or Clostradium Difficule. Giadiasis may imitate duodenal ulcer, hiatal hernia, gallbladder disease or pancreatic disease. If peripheral blood eosinophilla is detected, the infection is unlikely to be giardiasis but perhaps other parasites. The physican should obtain a recent history regarding travel, wilderness activities, sexual practices and exposure to unsanitary conditions". This article, I found interesting because it mentioned MC and the fact that giardia was found in the water of an elementary school my children attended and at which I drank the water at the fountain in the gym. When they got the results of the water test they shut off the water to all the fountains and provided bottled water. Then the town installed the piping to provide public water supply that was available about a mile away. The reason for the giadia was that the well for the school was downstream from a dam. In the small pond that formed hundreds of ducks and geese would swim there all year. Jon
