Budesonide and Hunger

Post by Jskaggs »

Does Budesonide make you hungry? It seems like I am hungry all the time. Have now gone from having D to C. This is no fun!

Hi Jane,

Sorry to hear about the C, but when that happens it's simply a signal that it's time to lower your dosage of Budesonide.

Budesonide is notorious for causing weight gain for many users. For some, it causes an increase in appetite, while others say that it causes them to gain weight even if they eat the same number of calories per day.

Hi Jane. I didn't get more hungry on it, nor did I gain weight ( except for the weight I lost originally). We all react differently.

Like Tex said, as soon as you start to feel C, lower your dose. that's a good sign that you are healing. Are you going from a full dose down to 6 mg.then? That's the easier step. When it's time to go down again, it's a good idea to go more slowly ( like every other day for a week).

Hi Jane,
I did just what Leah said and my experiences were the same. When C showed up it was time to decrease the dosage. I didn't gain weight nor did I have an increase in appetite while on it, but then I had a LOT of nausea with my LC. Hunger is still kinda rare.

The fact that you are hungry and ready to reduce your dosage is a good sign. I hope your progress continues.

Hi,

Budenoside is a kind of a cortisone, and that can make you feel hungry.

Good luck with the treatment!

I've never noticed an increase in hunger when I'm on Entocort. Now that I'm reducing it to a minimal dose, I seem to be hungry more often, though.

I could eat the entire Tesco's supermarket contents!!! I am constantly hungry on budesonide and it is a real battle just maintaining my weight! IMO it is a common side effect of steroids!

Tex is right! My MD told me that once I showed signs of improvement to cut back a cap ( was on 3 a day ) to two a day for two weeks then one for one week. I could tell during the taper down when I needed to step up or continue. It took me 4 weeks to get back to norman. ;) But I never got to the C side of the pendulum swing....I often joke that I would trade my first born for C....but I am more prone to D than C. You always want what you don't have :-D As far as appetite on Budeonide By the time I was diagnosed and given the Rx I was so sick I wasnt eating. I didnt get an appetite back for two weeks then when I was down to 1 cap I was eating a regular diet again. I didnt notice an increase due to the meds but more to better health!
Good luck
