Positive update :)

Post by Leah »

For those of you wondering how I am doing since my "decline", I'm happy to report that I am doing much better!

I did three things. I stopped taking an herbal supplement to deal with peri-menopausal symptoms , i started taking a DAO supplement three times a day, and I watch the high histamine foods.

I don't know which thing has helped me... or all, but I'm so happy that i'm feeling better.

When I feel ready, i will lower the dose of DAO and see what happens.

if my night sweats come back, i will take the supplement again and see if I decline. If I do, i will know for sure it was the problem.

It's an ongoing project with much detective work. For those of you out there who are still trying to figure it out, keep on keepin' on. Eventually you will (hopefully) get things under control :)

Thanks for all of your support and concern

Good work Leah. So happy to hear you are better and this is behind you.

It is exasperating--- it's always something with this disease.

Leah, what herbal supplement were you taking?

I took an herbal supplement in an effort to wean off HRT, and I believe that it contributed to triggering my MC. I won't blame it entirely, since there is the genetic component, and all the food involvement, but the D started a few months after I started taking the supplement, and reduced but did not disappear after I stopped taking it.

Good news! I didn't realize you were having night sweats. I'm assuming they are of the hot flash variety and not something more sinister, right?

That is great news Leah! You always seem to nip it in the bud one way or the other. Glad you are feeling so much better.

I don't have the night sweats YET....so will pass on any herbal supplements for as long as I can. I belong to a Facebook fitness group and they keep telling me "Oh you need to take this and that for your peri-menopausal symptoms. Well the only symptom I have are mood swings, so that doesn't warrant any kind of HRT or herbal supplement at this time. I had to make them understand that people with MC take a big risk when popping any kind of meds, supplements and/or herbal remedies. I think they are getting it now. I still just take my Vitamin D....want to take my B-complex with C again but nervous about it.

So did you have to give up a lot of foods to go low histamine? What does your diet consist of now? I honestly think a lot of the things I eat are high histamine but don't know for sure as I haven't looked at the list in a looong time. I only seem to react to overdoing the sugar sometimes. That's when the bloating occurs. Or when I binge on corn chips.

Again, I'm so glad you are feeling better.

Terri, Yes, the low histamine diet is very restrictive if you adhere strictly to it. I find it just too difficult not to eat ANY of them. Now that I am taking DAO, I have put a little vinegar on my salad, ketchup on my burger, and a little avocado too :) I also went back to eating one egg a day if I feel like it. I am just trying not to overwhelm my system with a build up of histamines. I also indulge in tiny bits of dark chocolate here and there.

We will see :)

Leah,

Glad to hear the good news. I am very strict with my diet too. Following the low histamine and low fiber one too. (Which didn't stop me from having a 4 day relapse ;-)

What brand of DAO did you buy? I know you were shopping for something reasonable...I haven't tried DAO yet...

Thanks

Good news, Leah!

I've had to stop taking any chocolate (again). Since doing so, I'm having Normans pretty consistently, gaining a little weight, and am down to a 0-1-1 Entocort dose, which was my goal. I also rarely have mouth sores now. Things are looking up!

Glad to hear it Gloria.
Monique, the least expensive DAO supplement is Swanson and that is what I ordered ( $15 for 30). I then ordered Seeking health Histamine Block from Amazon. I am waiting for it now. it was more expensive, but free shipping. I am having good results with it. I take it three times a day, but thinking of cutting back soon.

Thanks, Leah.

That stuff is so pricey. Like $90 a month if you take it according to their instructions...

I had my own sliding back this week for like 4-5 days. Added anti-histamine and it worked. Aren't you taking an anti-histamine?

Good to hear it worked for you.
