Help, blood sugar problem

Post by mcnomore »

I wake up in the middle of the night feeling as though my blood sugar is out of whack every so often. I drink a V8 and eventually feel better. I would think it's my electrolytes rather than blood sugar, but haven't had any D in awhile. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks

Hi,

Your suspicions may be correct. Most people believe that the only function of the colon is to extract water from the stool, but that's not the whole story. The colon also recovers and recycles electrolytes.

I have an ileostomy, and without a colon, I can't recycle water. Therefore, I get dehydrated easily, and I have to drink more water than most people. I've noticed that at the end of certain days, just before bedtime, I will sometimes develop the symptoms of hypoglycemia. To remedy that, I will usually eat a little GF cereal with almond milk, and the symptoms will disappear. I'm not sure exactly what is actually happening, because I don't have diabetes, but I've always suspected that the issue is associated with dehydration.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
