pain right under sternum?
Hi All. I have recently been getting a pain right below my sternum ( in the soft spot) right after i eat. Is this gastritis? Something else? Could the DAO supplement have anything to do with it? it's not a lot of fun and a sensation i haven't had in the past.

I'm not aware of a reason why histame would cause a pain of that type (though that obviously doesn't mean that it couldn't happen), but a histamine reaction could certainly do it. Gastritis is another possibility.
If the pain is worse following a meal that has a larger amount of fat, and it sticks around for a few hours and than slowly fades away, it might possibly be a gallbladder problem.

Oh, i have that too! i get two types of pain there, actually. one feels like it is a small painful spot--like if someone put a lit cigarette to my insides. that one I always explain with 'acid' or 'gastritis.' the other type is the severe cramping pain--to the point where breathing is difficult. that i always feel is more of an esaphageal spasm. that happens several hours after eating, when i am just sitting at work or something.
haven't found a reason or a cure yet....

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with fat content of what I am eating. I just had a bowl of cereal with almond milk and it is there... slightly. Yesterday, it happened to a larger degree every time i ate. it feels like the food is "stuck" right in that spot ( which is where the stomach is). ??????? I am going to start cutting back on the histame to once a day. Let's see what happens.

Hmmmm. That sounds as though the symptoms might be associated with a hiatal hernia. IOW, some of the food might be stuck just above the stomach (above the diaphragm).

I have a very small hiatus hernia so I never get that "stuck" feeling. But I have had that pain below the sternum like a gnawing pain. Used to get it a lot, then found out it was gastritis. Once I went on a low acid diet, it got a lot better plus giving up the NSAIDS which I know you don't take those. That pain came back when I broke down and took an Advil the other night for a headache that just wouldn't go away with Tylenol. Now I know for sure that Advil will aggravate my gastritis. I think a lot of meds can. If I overdo the Rice Chex, it tries to come back as well. Hmmm. My husband has the same thing going on and he thinks it's gas bubbles after he eats a big meal. He really needs to see my GI doctor.
Let us know how it goes with lowering the histamine. Back when I took fish oil, I had the same pain. Hope you feel better.

Lucky you!! We went to San Fran one year and drove down to Carmel but I passed on the drive to Big Sur so missed out. Too many curves for me...lol! Me and my motion sickness. It was all so beautiful up there. Enjoy!

Hi Leah,
Your trip sounds wonderful - nothing like being in nature to sooth the soul :). I used to camp on the water in Maine every summer for countless years. It was a great "escape" from my life in NYC.
Hope you have a fabulous time!!!
Love,
Kari
