GF bread

Post by TXBrenda »

For those of you that eat GF bread, do you let it thaw in the refrigerator or keep it frozen? Also is it better toasted? I don't eat it but my daughter bought some.

I keep it frozen, and I always toast it. I eat one slice for breakfast, and I like toast, so I've not bothered to try it untoasted. I mostly buy Rudi's multigrain or raisin. Udi's is good too, but right now I prefer Rudi's.

Martha, thanks for the reply. She bought Udi's. I don't know if we can get Rudi's in our area. She is intolerant to soy for sure.

My favorite is Udi's, since I need it to be soy-free as well as GF (and I love the taste!) You can toast it or just let it thaw for an hour or two for a regular sandwich. You can leave the loaf in the freezer, but I've also tried leaving it out at room temperature and it lasts quite a while, like regular bread.

Hi Brenda,
I eat both Udis and homemade GF bread. I keep both in the freezer and always toast it. It holds together better when toasted and I think it tastes better when toasted, too.

Brenda,

I agree with your daughter on that one. I never did like the way that toast irritated the roof of my mouth.

I use Canyon Bakehouse or Amaranth Bakery here in Lancaster, PA. Canyon is mail order from Colorado. Both excellent and actually can be eaten not toasted. In a pinch Udi's or Rudi's since they are more available. I have always preferred toast to regular bread.

Love, Maggie

I think Canyon Bakehouse is vastly superior to other breads, but often eat Udi's. Whole Foods has a decent tapioca-based, dairy free white bread now, but it has to be toasted. I order a mixed case of Canyon Bakehouse breads online and freeze all but one loaf when they arrive.

Hi, I use Udi's and Rudi's bread. I always keep it frozen and found that it dry's out when unfrozen. They have a shorter live span unfrozen and usually lasts about four days before it starts to mold. Jon

I use Canyon Bakehouse from Sprout's. It is really good. I keep it in the freezer until I am ready to use the loaf. It will last several days after thawing it. They also have hamburger buns and they are really good.

You do not need to toast as the flavor is delicious.

Hope you have a Sprout's nearby.

Best we have is a Natural Grocer's. Amarillo has around 200k people! Our Drug Emporium carries a lot of gluten free items. They are the best. Our local Wal Mart has started carrying several gluten free items, but not as many as the Drug Emporium.

Thanks for all your replies.

I agree with that Martha! Rudi's is great.

How do you store it? Do you put the whole bag in the freezer and "peel" a slice from the bag? I've been putting 2 slices in a sandwich bag to make getting the slices apart easier.

Holy Smokes Brenda, Amarillo is 200K population? I lived there in my teens, think it was about 100K then, grad of Amarillo HS (I understand they burned it down!), Amarillo Jr college before I went to Univ of Colorado then moved to Ca, now WA.

But I digress, I like my GF bread toasted, holds together better. I always keep it in the freezer. I make my own bread, lots of good recipes on Dee's kitchen. I do however like Udi's bagles, and toast them. Hope this helps

The Rudi's I get is gluten free, soy free, and dairy free.

I store the whole loaf in the freezer, then pry a slice off to use. It would probably be wise to take them out of the bag, separate them, refreeze flat, then put them all back in the bread bag, but I haven't done that.
