doc just called--my colitis is gone!

so my repeat biopsy showed that "i have no more colitis." that's what he just told me on the phone. no inflamation, my colon is now perfect. Asacol must've done its job, he said.

so, doctor, why am i still having all these symptoms?--i asked

well, said the good doctor, with certain types of colitis, for example ulcerative or microscopic, once it goes away, there is a type of IBS that's left. your colon stays sensitive and will eventually go back to normal. could the colitis come back? sure, but i don't think it will...

i mentioned to him that i ordered the Enterolab test and he said "just so long as you know that those aren't nearly as accurate as a blood test, if it makes you feel better--do it. see you in 6 months."

It never ceases to amaze me that we have to pay for advice like this. How can a trained medical professional be so clueless?

....then when people ask how I am doing, and I talk a little about food intolerances, they immediately ask who my doctors are... I tell them I have an internet family of professionals, and they change the subject!

Medical doctors are not Gods! They know very little about our condition and all the complications of it.

Sorry you have to deal with such inept medical professionals. It's always a kick in the pants when you get that look when you mention "an Internet support group."

At least you know better. It took me almost four years off suffering before I found the wonderful people here. At least if the medical dx now says your MC free you know you're making some progress.

How frustrating. I wonder if he was hinting at "post infectious IBS" which is what my GI told me I had when I first came in. I knew it was a load of hooey.

I just can't get over these GIs.

I wish you well, and hope the negative biopsies are indeed a sign of your improving health and wellness.

Sure, once you're a member of this family, you're always a member of the family, even if you're "cured".

That just goes to show how "eat up" doctors are with tests these days. They've gotten to the point where they ignore their patients' symptoms, if the symptoms seem to conflict with the test results.

I was never tested for MC. It was never on any doctor's radar. After years of problems I found this board and have been following the advice found here. The group accepted me just the same. Seeking out a doctor's advice is about the last thing I would do now.

It is absurd how doctor's ignore people's symptoms in favor of test results. Your doctor's cure is like the emperor's new clothes that you have wisely reused to wear.

oh yes, i'll be getting him a gift, allright! lol. yeah, i'm not going to see him ever again.

originally he found my MC completely by accident by looking for Celiac. Then he didn't call me about it for 11 months. Then i was on Asacol for about 4 months, and now I am cured. When after my follow up biopsy I mentioned the fact that nobody called me about the MC results for 11 months he said "well, at least it wasn't anything serious."

he seemed very proud of having taken biopsies from "both left AND right this time"--which leads me to believe that only one side was tested or affected last time? but since i never got a straight answer every time i asked a specific or detailed question (it was always more of "there, there, pretty girl, no need to worry yourself over this, here, take this horse pill"), i think i will never know.

this "IBS" is now ruining my life just the same as MC did--the other day in spin class I almost pooped in my $100 lululemon pants. let's just say that my 'glutes' were working double time during that class. and since that day, my D has turned into C--which is very timely since my Enterolab kit arrived last night, and now I have to wait for my colon to produce a cup-full before I can send it in!

but--with the wisdom of this board finally sinking in I really, trully believe that with the right food sensitivities found i can get a grasp on this. so--thank you everyone--for all your wise and kind words, for the kick in the pants when i needed it and for welcoming me even after my miracle cure!

now--who wants the name of the Doc who can cure MC?

Believe me, I've given some serious thought to doing that many times in the past, but these days there's a significant risk of being sued for defamation in a situation such as that. I'm almost tempted to take the risk, since I don't have anything worth suing for, anyway, but if someone wants to be vicious, they can abuse the legal system to make someone else's life mighty miserable for quite a while.

How timely that you ordered and received your Enterolab tests at the same time your doc said you have no MC !! The Enterolab results will definitely lead you in the right direction. I believe you'll be glad you took those steps.

It slays me how, knowing that every test has a standard error of measurement, your doctor can look at you as you continue to have symptoms and never consider that maybe the test was in error.

It just defies all logic.
