please reccomend an easy to understand gluten resource!

Post by fluffypoodle »

this past week, my family was visiting with their 7 year old daughter. the little girl has asthma, breathing/sinus troubles, and skin troubles diagnosed as eczema. She is very pale and often complains about tummy troubles. she has had skin allergy testing is is severely allergic to dogs, cats and tree nuts.

the family is acutely aware of gluten being an issue for some people--one of their in-laws, an ER physician himself, has had issues with his eyes swelling up for no reason that doctors both in Chicago and in his native Uzbekistan could not figure out--until he gave up gluten. his entire family has gone gf and are all super happy now.

however--these are skeptics that need some convincing still. i would like to point the mother of the 7 year old to Enterolab, or to her pediatrician for a Celiac test at least--but would like to give her something to read first. English isn't a problem for her--but super-scientific English that's dense and hard to read isn't going to do.

is there a resource, or a group of resources, where i can point her that explains different effects that gluten can have on a body--outside of digestive symptoms?

Really appreciate any thoughts and inputs!

Here are some links to articles that you might consider:

I didn't suggest my book, because surely she would consider it to be difficult to read, since it uses so many medical terms and medical research references.

While I totally agree that gluten is the most likely main problem, please be aware that all of the symptoms that you mentioned can also be caused by a sensitivity to casein.

Good luck.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

thanks, Tex, so very much!!!! I thought of your book as well--but the medical terms will for sure turn her off and confuse her!

I will mention the casein too--thank you!
