Great to see that you're still on track.

Hi Nettie, welcome to the board.

I want to add my concern about the fiber in your green smoothies. I was doing well some weeks ago and had a green smoothie I blended in my Vita-Mix with kale, parsley, flax, apple, and blueberries. I think that may have been the genesis of a flare. I had blanched the kale and parsley, then liquified it in my Vita-Mix and froze it in ice cube trays. I threw just a couple of the cubes in my smoothie. I thought mixing it in the Vita-Mix would take care of the fiber, but I don't think I handled it well even after all that.

If you have a juicer that will remove most of the fiber, you might want to use that for a while. Sometimes we are so inflamed that we react to something that we've been eating and otherwise would be fine.

Thanks Gloria and Tex.
Sorry to hear about the setback Marliss- you may be right about the smoothie causing it. I never had any problems with the green smoothies but then I think I have said elsewhere that I was coming off a year of a vegan whole food diet and my system is highly acclimated to a lot of fiber. I cut back for the three month period that I was taking the Pepto treatment and healing but now am back to about 75% of the same foods I ate before MC- lots of beans, nuts, raw kale salads and fruits.
Any improvements that I have realized and am enjoying I credit completely to this forum and Tex's book... I just hope I can stay in remission and keep coming back to encourage others. I really am interested to see if I stay off the gluten if it will have an affect on my arthritis.

I hope that you can resolve the arthritis symptoms, also. Casein is also notorious for causing arthritis symptoms, but I assume that dairy is not a part of your diet. Right?

Are you aware that nightshades are well known for causing arthritis for some people? I'm guessing that you may be avoiding nightshades also, and if that's true, then IMO you should have a very good chance of eliminating your arthritis symptoms after enough healing has occurred.

Yes thanks Tex...I don't have nightshades often..not a big potato fan but I do like tomatoes and notice more inflammation the day following eating them so I try to restrict myself.

Nearing the six week mark since my last Pepto tablet and I had a follow up visit with my doctor this week. I am back up to 120 pounds and still experiencing Normans. I am eating everything pre- diagnosis except for gluten/dairy. I even picked strawberries and ate a lot this week. I still eat meat about once a week but my primary protein source has reverted to beans because I love them so much. I'm only posting this in my journal because I know that most people can't tolerate this kind of diet and I don't want to confuse the newbies who are trying to figure it all out. However it just goes to show how varied the reactions are to foods with this disease and you have to figure out what works for you. During my six month flare I thought I would never find a "safe" food because I reacted to everything until I had the assistance of the meds.......my goal while on the meds was to heal so I ate mostly bland food. At first I drank green smoothies but couldn't get off the Pepto so I cut those out during the second month of Pepto so that I wouldn't compromise the healing and changed over to getting my veggies in a soup or cooked in my pressure cooker to a well done consistency. I also ate a lot of white rice, bananas and hot buckwheat cereal.
