The cost of receiving a gluten free certification

Post by wonderwoman »

Our Sunday paper The Arizona Republic had an article in it on GF facilities and I found this portion of the article interesting.

You can read the whole article at

Third-party certification costs money, but, in the big picture, those costs are not very high for these food companies.

The Gluten-Free Certification Organization charges companies an annual flat fee, but the fee is determined by the ease of compliance for the company. Kupper said a low-risk facility, which has very little, if any, gluten anywhere, is usually charged around $3,000 a year for the certification. She said higher-risk plants can pay more than $10,000 a year.

The Gluten-Free Certification Organization certifies more than 16,000 products and inspects facilities in more than 20 countries, Kupper said. Seven companies that produce food in Arizona are certified by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization.

Boulder Canyon’s facility in Goodyear is not only certified gluten-free but also free of genetically modified organisms.
