I just found out that she died on Sunday.
She never had her wish granted. I think she chose something but changed her mind to attend a concert in ATL. I don't know who she wanted to see.
She did get to go on a shopping "wish" with her twin sister who also has EB.

NP Joan. Very sorry!
Licorice is sick again. More D. Time to rethink.
I hate seeing her like this. Last night I couldn't understand why she moved from her accustomed place cuddled up to me and was sleeping at the end of the bed. I saw loose poo last night so I put out a pad behind the TV. I went out to the balcony to water my plants and saw she had both peed and pooed on it. Poor little thing.
Back on the antibiotics + probiotics, and when she s well again I need to figure out what to feed her.
I think I will ask the vet about tylosin/

Lesley,
I decided that I should feed my dog as high quality food as I feed myself. I probably spend significantly more on dog food than most people do but it is a lot cheaper than visits to the vet. Since November I have been feeding him Darwins pet food.

Pretty pricey but worth it I think. At least he's a small dog
I have also used Stella and Chewys freeze dried and Honest Kitchen Zeal (for sensitive stomachs)
Recently I added a small amount of grain free Wysong Epigen 90 Kibble to his diet because he had lost a little weight since switching to Darwin's and I wanted to add a few more calories without upping the amount I spent on Darwin's. The Epigen caused d so I removed it and started with the chicken and sweet potato mixture, first only that mixture for a day and then a small amount added to his Darwin's. He's fine now.
I hope Licorice is better soon.

Hi Lesley,
So sorry Licorice is still having problems - poor little thing :(. I adopted one of my two cats about 10 years ago and when she came to me, she had horrible, stinky, bloody D. I took her to 2 different vets looking for a solution, but as with us MC'ers, they didn't think much of it and basically had no advise to give me. So the awful D. continued.
When I retired a couple of years later and moved to Colorado, I took her to the local vet who put her on prescription food. It is Hypoallergenic Royal Canin Vet Diet (main ingredient is venison). The company also makes dog food. Well, in no time her stinky D. was gone and it has stayed that way ever since (several years now). The prescription food is a bit pricey, but for my peace of mind and her well-being it's more than worth it.
Hope you find a solution that works for little Licorice soon.
Love,
Kari

Where else but on this board could we ever read a comment such as that.Marcia wrote:When I clean up their poops, I get a little jealous.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
OK, update on Licorice, then a new thread because I need help, and haven't enough energy to type a lot.
Licorice's trainer, Jill. has been working with me re: nutrition. She says vets are the last people to listen to re:nutrition because they get one semester on it, and learn about all the animals = pigs, horses, sheep, dogs, cats etc.
She has been working with dogs for 30 years and is helping me find the diet that will suit Licorice.
The vet wanted me to go to 50% (at least) commercial food (preferably the one they sell), and to add supplements (preferably the ones they recommend, and from where they get kickbacks).
Jill told me to keep her diet very simple. I/4 cup RAW meat (one week ground beef, one week ground turkey and so forth), one tsp pureed veg (raw or cooked) from a list she gave me, and to supplement from another short, very sensible, list for breakfast.
Dinner - I/2 a raw chicken neck or 1/4 raw chicken back.
So far so good. She loves it, and her poop seems to have gone back to normal.
