Having the best summer!
Hello everyone....wanting to update as someone was asking about me (love ya Monique). I'm so sorry I haven't been around much. I need to catch up on all the posts. I'm just having the best summer I've had in ages!! Thanks to this forum! I had a huge July 4th get-together at my house....grilled hamburgers and hotdogs and did many fireworks on our cul-de-sac. Last year at this time I was so weak and having D all the time but still managed a party but was a total party poop-er....haha! What a difference a year makes! For you newbies...please hang in there...it gets better. I have so much more energy (need a little more) and have added even more foods to my diet with no issues. I feel alive again!! Been med free since December!
As for my diet, apparently I don't have any issues with soy after many tests but still don't plan on eating much of it. I've added some beans back in as I've needed a little bit more extra fiber. I can eat more veggies as well! I eat a little more sweets than I should but don't react to them anymore for some reason. Too many leftovers after my party and indulged in marshmallows (gosh, I've missed those) and had no issues. I was still having a little bloating a couple of times a week right at bedtime...contributed that to my upping the fiber. I just recently gave up rice for a whole week and corn chips as well just to see if the bloating went away and OMG I had the best week....not even slight bloating! But I'm adding rice back in this week to see if that was the culprit or not. As for the chips, I'm going to eat those once a week rather than every day and see what happens. Don't want to give those up unless I know 100% that I really have issues with them. I haven't had D since September...not even close. I'm braving more foods without being scared of having a flare. The only time I had a little issue was when my hubby and kiddo took off to Yellowstone without me and I was left alone here for 8 days. At that time I had slight nausea for a couple of days and 2 Norms a day rather than one. That is not like me. Two Norms a day is in the past! So stress definitely does play a role in this nasty disease. Once I got used to being alone I was fine. Dang nerves!!
Now I'm thinking of adding my B-complex with C back in and see how I do. Only take Vitamin D3. I'm worried how I will react to the C in my vitamin. May end up with just a B-complex minus the C. I seem to tolerate citrus now as well when used in moderation. Just so happy I can eat so much! For now! And what makes me the happiest is I can still eat chocolate...lol!!
Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know I'm doing well...in remission and hope to stay that way. I really need to catch up with the many newbies and see what's going on with everyone else.
This is my first summer without being poked, prodded, scoped and cut on. It's a miracle! Oh and I didn't need the hysterectomy after all so really happy about that. I'm sure I will have to have it one day but it's nice to give my body a much needed break.
Hope everyone is having a nice summer!
Love,
Terri

Wow, Terri! That is great news!!! You've done well reintroducing foods slowly. I get indigestion from many corn chips - makes me wonder if it's potential cross-contamination or GMO corn that bothers me. I do believe I do better with organic corn chips (non-GMO), so give them a try before you abandon corn completely. I do agree that corn chips should not be a daily habit either way.
Way to go!!!

Hey Zizzle,
Thank you!
Yes, I eat the Non-GMO corn chips. I forgot to mention that I do still eat Rice chex and rice pasta but thought it was weird that I felt 100% all last week after giving up my boiled white and jasmine rice. Yes, will take your advice and go light on the corn chips...not good for us anyway. Just needing some weight back on! Hope you are doing well!

Terri,
Great news! I just want to comment on the nerves/stress. I too am doing great, BUT stress really does a number on me. Always has, even before MC. If a tornado was predicted I would have to head for the bathroom. Now, when I am worried or stressed I will have several Normans in a day and take a Diarrhea Stop to get things under control. Wish there was a way I could conquor the stress. Food does not seem to be an issue. I don't eat gluten and am carful with other foods.

Thank you all so much!
Leah...my corn chips have sunflower oil in them....I do try to stay away from Canola oils. I'm cutting down on those chips but it's always the food I go for when I'm stressed. Ugh!
Nancy...we are a lot alike! Always had issues even before diagnosis. Whenever there is a hurricane in the gulf I start getting nervous....if we get another one to hit here...last one was Ike...then I'll be a mess for sure!! I get nervous about so much it's not even funny. And it starts off with more than one normal BM and if I'm really in trouble it will eventually progress to D. Luckily that hasn't happened yet, but all it will take will be for one of my parents to die or something along those lines to get me in a full blown flare for sure. Glad you are doing well! Oh and my in-laws, I've learned, or not good for my digestion so am trying to stay away from them.....so far it's been since early January! No wonder I feel so good....lol...gotta laugh or I'd just cry!
Gloria...thank you! Did I read where you have added another fruit? I'm so happy for you as I know you have many intolerances. I need to try a mango sometime!
Monique....I'm kinda shocked at all I can eat...but enjoying it now before it comes back and bites me in the rear end. Is the Elavil still working wonders for you?
Tex....aren't you glad Texas is getting all this rain!?

Terri,
Elavil still working. I've gained like 5 lbs. Hate it. My pants are tight and don't want to go to the next size. Elavil also affects my short term memory. I hate that too.

Definitely! We've had over 4 inches so far. And the high temp here yesterday was 74 (a record low temperature for the high for the day). It was a little warmer today, but still not bad for July in Texas.Terri wrote:Tex....aren't you glad Texas is getting all this rain!?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
